Parents with children age 10-14 (kids club info)

On our recent Fantasy cruise (12/8)we had our 4 children with us ages 3, 7, 10, and 11. My 10 and 11 year old girls wanted to be in the edge and not the Oceaneers club/lab. My 10 year old had just turned 10 in October. Both girls were allowed access to the Edge and OC/OL. So they both got the wrist trackers. In the edge you don't wear one of those trackers. My DH brought both girls up to the Edge on that first day and the CM promptly cut off those trackers and handed them to my DH with this statement. "You won't want them wearing these in here..they will be made fun of.". Now that is going above and beyond the call of duty! Disney rocks and they think of everything...truly!

So 11 year olds can go to the Lab? I was thinking they were always Edge. I ask because I have a friend whose daughter will have just turned 11. She wants to go to the Lab. If she can, if she changes her mind can she go to the Edge?

We are on the Magic in 3 weeks, my DD is 13 and she feels outta luck that she might be confined to just the one of the kids clubs. My DS is 4, and he can only be in the OC. She hates leaving him (as do I), but I hope that they can take mercy on her and let her float between them all. 13 is such a weird year, hope they can help her fit in!

I'd like to point out that there may be many parents of children on the younger side of the Club/Lab who won't be happy to find out that a 13 year old would be running around in there.

I've seen 11 and 12 year olds who seem to forget that there are 3 year olds in there and just plow right into them. Not to mention the potty-trained 2 year olds that may also be in there.

I've got a DD that will just have turned 13 a few weeks before our summer cruise. I agree 13 is a weird year and hope mine can float. She is really into crafts and some of the activities like messy science offered in the lab. She may also like to hang out in the edge, however, seems to do better with structured activities versus just sitting around chatting. We tried the Edge when she was 11 on the Dream and she preferred being with her younger brother in the lab But she'll have been through a full year of junior high and now two years older so she may prefer being away from younger brother.

Would like to have option for her to be where she is most comfortable. I can understand some parents may not want a 13 year old in with the younger kids, but she is super good around younger children and babysits 1 and 2 year olds plus was a peer tutor for special needs kids at school. I'd be more worried about my 8 year old son running over little kids in the club than with her. We'll have to wait and see what they allow when we arrive. I've warned her she may be limited to the Edge only to get her used to the idea ahead of time.

I'm in the opposite boat. My DD and her friend will be just shy of 14 when we cruise in 2 weeks and I'm afraid they'll only have Edge as an option. I'm not sure where they will fit in. If Edge is their only option and they don't like it I don't anticipate them spending much time in there. Which is not really a problem, but I'd like them to enjoy themselves.

At 14 they can do either Edge or Vibe. That's the crossover age between the two groups.

Sorry, but they need to be consistent and not let the 10 yos go in the Edge. My 14 yo isn't going to want to be in there with 10 yos so now will probably go to the Vibe, where he is allowed to be per the ages, but was nervous about going there because he would be one of the youngest. The age groups were set up for a reason and they need to stick with them. That is one thing that I will be noting on our comment card. If I had a child in the OC I would be VERY upset if a 13 yo was in there with them during a secured checkin time.

I was going to say that I'm sure they could share time during the open house. While most kids are great, I would not have wanted an older kid around mine when she was younger.

I think that's the problem. My 13 year old would be fine with her age group. Well the older end of her age group, but once it's filled up with the younger crowd trying to get away from the bumped up crowd in the lab then it's like a domino effect.

My dd had just turned 13(less than a month) and was not allowed in the club at all!!! All the other girls with us were 12 and under. Felt bad as before you could go as a visitor... now only at the open house times which were not at all convenient(like dinner time or mid day port day when we were off the ship and an adult has to stay with them at the open house). She would not have gone much, but might have wanted to do the magic floor game. There is so much flexibility for 10-12 year olds, but less than 30 days after turning 13, none.

Like your DD, my DD is ten years older than her little brother, and is like a second mother really, very nurturing to all little kids. Again, not every 13 y/o is the same. She has stated to me that she will worry as much as I will about him.
