I live very near the Rose Parade route, but I actually prefer to watch at home. I like to hear the commentary so I know what everything is on each float. Later in the day I'll go up and look at the floats in person.

We are going to my Mom's house to see the rest of my family. It's a New Years Day tradition that we all get together

Maybe if you leave some chocolate under your pillow the Tag Fairy will visit you!

DH has the day off, and our neighbor's son is coming over to work on our upstairs hallway (we put in a laminate floor downstairs and are also doing the hallway upstairs as well as re-doing the stairs with hardwood treads), so DH will want to help him out. DD and I might head to the mall for a last "girls day" before she goes back to school the next day.

I will probably make red beans & rice with sausage for dinner- got to get our New Years Day good luck meal taken care of!

Our New Year's Day tradition is to spend the day (or a good part of it) at Barnes & Noble, trying to decide how to spend the gift cards we each always receive. I hit the jackpot this year - I received $125 in B&N gift cards, in addition to the four hardback books I received. When all is said and done, I'll have enough reading material to last until my birthday (March).

Oh Lord! My father looks forward to this every year. Is this the one Julie Andrew hosts on PBS? This is like my father's Super Bowl! We can't even talk to him or walk in front of the TV when it is on. My dad reads books and listens to music in his free time. He doesn't watch sports or anything! This is quite the event for him.

Tomorrow is Christmas Day at our house, not New Years Day

My kids are all in the medical profession and one lives 5 hours away. This was the first date that we could manage to get all together.

Taking down the tree and veggin' out. I took all the rest of the decorations down today, but I like to keep the tree up and lit for NYE. Kind of silly since DH, DD (who is 2) and I will be snoozin' by 8:30 or 9:00 I'm guessing!

I like the previous poster that mentioned they were taking down the tree and mowing the lawn. Something I'm pretty sure I will never do on the same day living in NE Ohio!:

Tomorrow, I'll be watching the Rose Parade on tv. I'm cooking a pot roast in the crockpot, and spending the rest of the day undecorating the house.

How will you be spending the first day of the new year?
I don't have work this week due to the holidays (yay) so I'll be probably relaxing and sleeping in. I'll watch the Rose Parade on TV and maybe go out for a nice dinner with my family. We'll also have the annual "Family Talent Show" and have a nice, easygoing day!

Go shopping for bargains and sales. Dillards has their annual Jan 1 sale so I will go there first and than see what other stores have.

Hopefully NOT what I am doing today - got a stomach thing going on.

Pretty much anything else would be an improvement.

I'm going to my Mom and Daddy's house and watching football. We will be cooking traditional New Year's Day dinner - black eyed peas, greens, fried potatoes, cornbread
