We were on the Wonder over DW's birthday, when they gave you a cake. Her birthday was at the end of the cruise. We got it at the end of dinner including after eating dessert. We were too full to eat it so brought it back to our stateroom. Eventually tossing most of it away before getting off the ship Just never had room for it. So if you're like us (and ask for and get a cake) and don't eat it just because it's there; you may want to get it earlier in the cruise so you can finish it over time.

I'm on the computer now and not my phone so I'll describe my birthday experiences.
I've done both cake and mousse. Our first cruise was over my 35th birthday. My birthday was embarkation day and apparently since I am the family planner, no one thought about telling the servers it was my birthday. It was a little disappointing to not get any acknowledgement for my birthday. 3 days later my dad asked them to do something and they brought out the mousse for my birthday. Later in the week I had planned to celebrate my oldest birthday on the last night of the cruise. They actually did a little thing with Tinkerbelle and she too got the mousse. Thinker Belle was cute but the mousse was just not that impressive.

On our 2nd cruise we were celebrating my dad's 70th birthday on board. His birthday was the week before the cruise. I ordered a cake for the table. We had the cake instead of dessert that night. It was actually pretty good. Fortunately I spoke with the waiter the first night because they had the information mixed up and thought it was my birthday not my dad's (because I ordered the cake) and had the day we wanted it wrong but it was fixed without anyone knowing it and arrived on schedule the 2nd night for semi-formal night.

My daughter turns 7 one week after the cruise this March. I asked her if she wanted the Mousse or if she wanted a cake. She specifically requested a cake so I am going to order another one for her birthday.

We ordered the cake and decoration package for my D'S 6th birthday, which fell the third day of our cruise. When we got to our room the first day, the cake was in our room (had to be refrigerated). Once it leaves their possession, they can't put it in their refrigerators so we took all the shelves out of ours and put it in there.

On his birthday we brought it with us and asked them to serve it. They were a bit reluctant because they were worried about spoilage but ended up serving it. They served it after dessert and our kids were getting antsy to leave.

The cake was not very good at all (white with strawberry filling) and whipped cream frosting.

My daughter had her 6th Birthday on the Dream. Her dessert on her Birthday was perfect size for her. Honestly, you can order any dessert you want for free.(except for the huge cake) We were so stuffed from eating so much most of the cruise. I think it was the pirate night buffet too that night and they have huge cakes there too lol I couldn't see wasting money on a cake we wouldn't eat. She was perfectly happy.

And, when we went to our stateroom that day, we had a surprise waiting for her! We brought streamers and decorations from home and we had an awesome stateroom host. Our server friend was on vacation that week and we had someone different as a server. I let him know right away on the first night when her Birthday was so there was no confusion. The wait staff came to sing Happy Birthday to her at the table. She was thrilled. I also go a pin from guest services for her to wear throughout the cruise. Every person that worked for DCL she came across would say "Happy Birthday Princess." Even the Princesses gave her special attention. I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
