New Years Day (and the week)

How do you think the crowds will be this week (New Years Day and the week right after?) When I originally planned the trip, the Unofficial Guide suggested that this week would be a good time to go, but now I'm looking at the crowd forecast, and it's 9.4 out of 10. This is my first time at Disney with kids. I know to get to the parks very early, and will definitely do this.

Thoughts?

Very busy.

Many schools will be out until the second week of January.
This will mean far more guests at WDW than when school starts during the first week of January.

The more that New Year's day creeps into the week, the longer people take off. Also many people are getting a holiday in lieu of having to use a vacation day when it falls during the week.

We have people in our office who are not returning until the 7th, so I would have expected it to be busy.

I would also expect it to be busy the next few years, until the holidays fall back on a weekend again.

Boo. That's what I feared.

Do you think that by getting to the parks before they open is a way to not be completely miserable? Any other tips?

They use less vacation days, or take the entire week using the same amount of days. We have people in our office who are not returning until the 7th, so I would have expected it to be busy.

I would also expect it to be busy the next few years, until the holidays fall back on a weekend again.
