Hulu and/or Netflix
Does anyone have Hulu and/or Netflix only. We are trying Hulu free for the week and thinking about dropping Dish.
If you dropped cable/satellite, did you miss it? |

I got rid of cable last March and just have Huluplus and netflix. I dont miss cable at all. I was never one for just flipping channels and randomly finding something on. I usually have something specific to watch. I dont miss cable at all. Almost all my shows I can find online.
I have an antena but I dont get much. I was able to watch the Disney Christmas Parade. I used to get the CW and watch The Peoples Court sometimes but that hasnt been coming in the last few weeks. I also cant get Dr Phil thats the only show I miss. I will be getting cable back in a few weeks when my mom come to stay for 2 months. She will be here alone while Im at work so she needs something to do. |

I only miss it when I want to spend a day being lazy and watching trashy tv. Otherwise, nope.

I haven't used regular TV in ages. I prefer Netflix, cause even if you pay for Hulu you still have to sit through commercials, which I loathe. If I'm paying a premium, then I don't want commercials at all.

I use both (watching Dick Van Dyke shows on Hulu right now!). I like them both (Hulu has the most updated content but you deal with the same commercials over and over). I still can't imagine dumping cable. What about basketball and those odd shows that can't be found on either (like finding Bigfoot - lol)?
I also have Amazon Prime and use it about as often. I think the Roku DH got me for Christmas has been quite a nice gift.

Netflix if you are a movie person. Hulu is you are a TV show person. I agree with getting both if you are dropping your cable. There are plenty of shows that can be streamed on the computer too.
You will miss the ball games. We tried to dump cable and just couldn't do it. My DH is too much of a couch potato.

This is exactly what I am afraid of. DH loves football. As mentioned earlier, I love Dr Phil. We are doing free trials of both so maybe that will help us make our decision. |

You'll mi it at first but like any addiction after time you'll get over it. We haven't had cable in 3 years. When we go to a hotel we'll turn on the tv and there'll be reruns still from when we did have cable. Not worth the overpriced bill.
We have Netflix, Hulu+ and an indoor antenna. We can watch our local Ravens play football on the CBS affiliate (also airing the Superbowl this season). We also get ABC, Fox and CW. About 2 or 3 times per season the game is on NBC or NFl network then we'll just enjoy a family dinner and the game at my FiL's. The antenna costs range from $10-$50 usually. Ours was the cheapest I believe maybe $15. We also use Redbox. They send free codes once per month through their text sign up and offer discounts almost every weekend through email. My husband has also found up to date full episodes of shows he enjoys including Ghost Adventures on YouTube. He also has found websites to stream certain shows online for free. While it may take some adjusting at first and finding new favorites it is a decision we have never regretted. |

We have both. We were three years cable-free but just caved last week and got cable again. Hulu and Netflix kept me happy but it was becoming a problem for our internet having so many devices everything was starting to become super slow. I also have one show on the local channels and that was the one channel that was spotty. But if our family was smaller I still wouldn't have cable.

We got rid of cable over a year ago. We were going to try it for 6 months. Got Netflix. That 6 months can and went and we had no desire for cable! Added Hulu a few months ago. The kids don't even miss cable anymore. Hulu is great for the brand new stuff, it will have a show the day after it aired. Netflix is great for catching up on past seasons, they will have all the old seasons but not the newest. We like having both and for $15 a month for both it beats the heck out of cable

Hulu and Netflix cannot replace regular TV for me for two specific reasons: Sports and Doctor Who.

I just dropped cable and will save $100/month even with having Netflix and HuluPlus. What I can't find on one of those, I can find on a network website. I am not a sports person, so that won't bother me at all.
