Anything can happen to disrupt the plan. My first cruise (not DCL) there was a government upset happening on an island and so we docked at a different island (turns out it was one of my favorite islands!). Our first cruise with Disney was a 4 day, it was too windy to stop at CC on our scheduled day, so we circled around for the day and tried again on what was suppose to be our sea day, again the wind was too bad. I was also on the cruise with the previous posted who mentioned the two medical emergencies causing us to be too delayed to get there. Three completely different reasons to miss a scheduled island. Anything can happen.

Red face

Fingers crossed this does not happen to us-I will cry. BTW I know we all love Disney and I know the reasons they can't dock if the weather is not right but it seems to happen way too often. Just sayin'.

I was on that cruise & I wanted to cry! It was my 1st cruise & CC was my only "must do". I had to suck it up & find reasons to not be sad: no one in my family was ill; I am on a CRUISE!; it is 70 degrees today, I am on a CRUISE!; had a fancy breakfast at Royal Palace; I am on a CRUISE! get the idea, lol.

Last year during the Med cruise in July we had to skip a port. The weather was too difficult in Monaco, and since they have to use tender boats there we were diverted to Palma de Mallorca.

I too would be disappointed. Sorry this happened, they're responsible for the safety of the passengers and the ship.

You didn't pay for Castaway Cay, you paid for a cruise that had a scheduled stop at Castaway Cay. Cruise ships can and do miss ports at times. The captain has discretion to skip CC entirely if he determines that the ship can't dock there safely due to weather or wave conditions. Most of the time the captains will at least give it a shot before they determine that docking can't be done safely.

If you make another attempt, just keep in mind that things can happen at any time and you may not be able to dock there again. The odds aren't in favor of another skip, but it could happen. This is something cruisers should realize if their main reason for taking the DCL cruise is to visit Castaway Cay.

If I remember the poll from before, January was the most popular (unpopular?) month for missing the island.
DW and I were on the Wonder during the Panama Canal repositioning cruise January of last year and missed CC because of high winds. The captain made several attempts but the wind was hitting the ship square on the side and kept pushing us sideways, very disappointed we didn't make it. The first time in four cruises we missed it. The other times we cruised and made it was once in August and twice in December.

Be glad that you got an extra sea day instead of a windy day at Castaway Cay. We were on the first sailing of Dream after Hurricane Sandy. Our ship was the first to attempt docking at CC. Actually they switched our sea day with the CC day to give the workers an extra day to clean up the island. The day we got to CC it was incredibly windy. The captain made 3 attempts to get us docked over the course of several hours. We finally docked at 11am. The island was so windy that we decided after lunch to go back on the ship. Most excursions were cancelled on the island due to limited time and weather. We left on schedule at 4pm.
I always try to look at the positive in the decisions that are made. Not only would it be unsafe to dock, but it also wouldn't be the best CC experience for you if they did dock.
