Unbelievable... Passport proccessing

I am so excited! We applied for our passports on 12/19, and I had them in the mail today! We didn't even apply for expedited service! Praises go to the wonderful postman who got us in despite the holiday rush at the PO and to the US State Department for giving us a happy little Christmas present!

Wow! That's really fast! It took us months to get our passports. Merry Christmas!

That's the fastest service I've heard of.

8 days... That's fast. I got mine in 14 days about a year and a half ago and that was fast at that time. You did a great job of having all your documents and applications all set to go. Great job!

I have found the USPS to be very efficient at processing passport applications, at least for my family. You do pay more for the photos, but if you show up with photos that pass muster from Walmart or wherever they will process your application and I think you'll be surprised at how quickly it shows up in the mailbox. Of course, RMMV depending on a variety of factors. Reviewing the US State Department website regarding passport applications is basically required, unless you want to go round and round with them for months. Don't waste your time sending in a birth certificate that doesn't meet current standards, it won't get you anywhere.

I applied for my kids on Dec 12th with regular processing and received them today too! Incredible! (It didn't even show online until this past Thursday that they received it.)

I had done mine last month and it took 2 1/2 weeks which I still thought was fast.

That's great!!
About a year and a half ago, mine took 10 days (or maybe it was 12). I was pleasantly surprised as well!! And not business days, total days. Also submitted my application on New Years Eve, so also had a holiday

Does anyone know the time frame for renewals? Mine is in pretty good shape, so all I have to do is send the book back with the renewal application.

We sent ours in for renewal the week after Thanksgiving, and received the new ones yesterday.

Yeah, oddly I have also found that renewals seem to take longer than first time passports...DW had her renewal back at about 4 weeks, where the kids new ones just under 2 weeks. Go figure.

When we applied in 2010, we applied on a Monday and my son received his that Saturday while I got mine that following Tuesday! No expediting as we applied in June for a September trip. I was shocked!! I do think one factor for the quick turnaround was that we are just outside a city that has a processing center!!

We applied on December 9th for my daughters passport and received it on the 20th. We were astonished because they said it would take 5 weeks. The post office is awesome.

Thanks for the info. We aren't going until 2014 so there is plenty of time. I was just curious on what to expect, but with my luck it will probably take a month.
