Flights and cruising out of Miami

We are looking at cruising out of Miami and are trying to organise flights.

What time would be the latest we could fly into Miami and still make it to board the ship?

If the ship is due back into port at 7.30am, what time would be realistic to fly out of Miami on the return leg?

I am assuming you are flying from Australia to Miami.

For long trip like that where there is likely to be several plane switches, lay-overs, different airports (possibly in the same city), and where at any point in the leg of you trip, adverse weather, flying conditions, flight delays, mechanical issues can arise, I would HIGHLY suggest planning on arriving at the very latest the day before your cruise. That recommendation would be for a short domestic flight. For a long international flight, I would plan to arrive a few days before your cruise. Even if you have travel insurance, missing the boat is missing the boat. The extra days will give that cushion if a flight is delayed and a connecting flight is missed, a flight is cancelled, you luggage is lost, etc. Also you would probably like the extra days to acclimate to new time zone, and recover from such a long flight!

As for departure the last day, I would also would recommend nothing earlier than noon, since you will need to be checked in on an international flight at least two hours in advance.

Thanks Four Bears. We were planning on having a few days in LA beforehand. The TA was wanting to put us on an overnight flight (via Cleveland) and arrive in MIA on depature day at 11.34. Then they wanted us to leave MIA at 8.05 for LA and fly to Sydney the following day.

I can now say no way - change please.

I would say the same thing.

We are from L.A., and have cruised from the Port of Miami. At a minimum, we arrive in Miami one day before the cruise.
