Bed situation with toddler

We are cruising the Fantasy in march. Last time we cruised my daughter was almost 3 and the sofa/bed worked well for her with bed rails. This time she will be almost 5 but my son will be 1.5. He is normally in a crib but likes to climb on it. We planned on putting him in a pack and play but worried he will be too uncomfortable. Have the option for that Murphybed in our stateroom so can move the baby to the sofa/bed and my daughter to the Murphy bed. Any recommendations?

We cruised last year with a three year old and a 20 month old. We used the pack and play and my son slept well in it, but it really cluttered up the room and made it feel small. You can request a bed rail for the sofa bed. The room steward will set it up. It's pretty sturdy, but won't keep him in if he wants to climb out.
For our upcoming cruise with a four year old and a two year old we got the deluxe family stateroom so we could have the two lower beds, even though our little guy uses the pack and play all the time at Nana's.

Does the bed rail stay up the whole cruise or is this something the steward puts up every night? Is it easy enough to take off in the morning (or put back on if we take it off?)

We used the Pack N Play for our 17 month old last month. She did really well in it but she's also our only child. We placed her behind the curtain and she went right to sleep. We always bring extra blankets with us to cushion the pack n play a bit. Also, our Room Host would fold it up for us during the day. I think your only other option would be the bed rails on the Murphy bed.

We have the deluxe as well. I requested pack and play and extra bed rails. Trying to decide what is the lesser of the two evils. He just started climbing out of his crib this week so it might be a good time to see how he does in the bed.

We had our 4 y/o up top and put our 22 month old on the sofa bed. She had never slept in an open bed before but did just fine. We just lined pillows up along the edge. She did fall off one night, but knocked a pillow off with her and didnt even wake up.

he requested a pack n play just in case the bed didnt work out, but since space was already tight and she was ok with the sofa bed, we just sent the PnP back.

We just moved DD to a big girl bed a few nights ago and I keep wondering if she's going to do something like this lol!

We put our two year old on the bed with the rails, even though he was still in a crib at home. He was so completely exhausted every day it was never an issue

The room Steward cleans your room twice a day. When the morning cleaning is done the bed rails will be taken away and the room will be reset. Then at night, usually when you are at dinner they have a turn down service and the beds will be made up again rails and all. The same with a pack and play they will take it down in the morning and then set it up in the evening. They leave the pack and play in the room though so you can use it if you need it.

Another option with two kids is to put them on the flip sofa bed with one head at each end and the feet overlapping if you are not comfortable using the bunk and don't want the pack and play.

Re: taking the bed rails away -- what about naptime, though? I guess we should request they leave it alone? What have others done? DD will be 2 1/2 on our October cruise -- she's still 22 months and in a crib at this point, but I figure we will convert it to a toddler bed by then.

Tell your room steward what you want--if you want the couch left as a bed and the rails placed against a wall, they will do that. If you want the child to nap on your big bed, go for that. Whatever works for YOU is what they will do. When not in use, the rails normally are stored in the closet.
