Stupid 1st time lanyard question

If I want to go ahead and buy lanyards for myself and 3 kids, do they need to already have a clear "Id" holder attached to put cards in? Or do we just need the actual lanyard with a clip at bottom.

You need the holder too.

You get nothing from Disney as a first timer, so if you want a pocket for your KTTW card, you need to buy a lanyard with it. Some say you could put a hole in the card and clip it on without a pocket.

When did they stop offering lanyards to first time cruisers? We got a set on our 1st cruise with DCL.

I have never seen them give out lanyards to first-time cruisers. In the beginning (late 90's) they didn't give out lanyards at all. At some point they started giving out lanyards to return cruisers, with the color based on their level in the Castaway Club. Perhaps the CM handed you those by mistake? What did they look like?

We cruised in 06 and they were blue and red. We still have them. They were in our room with a welcome note.

Are you (or were you) DVC members? They get lanyards also.

A note here, the cards on the Dream & Fantasy have a chip in them, so you can't punch a hole in them. Well, you can, but it may damage the chip.

Nope, not DVC members. I still have them. We never use the lanyards so they never leave the package they come in, but we like to collect them.

Maybe they were left in the room by the previous cruisers. Who knows. We got them. They weren't shoved in a drawer, but on the bed.

Don't they sell the lanyards with pockets onboard? Are they way more expensive than at the Disney online store? I was thinking we would buy them on our cruise...maybe I should order instead?

Yes, they have lanyards in the shop onboard. They cost about $8.00.

Thanks! They cost $8.95 online, so I think I'll just wait and have one less thing to pack!

I have had a hole punched in my KTW on the Dream and the Wonder. Just take the card to Guest Services. For me, it was much easier than fumbling with a pouch, plus I kept it on a short key ring clipped to my belt loop.

We did not get a free lanyard on our first cruise in 2010 and that was even in Concierge. We did get free ones on the second cruise as castaway club members.

You can get them on eBay for less than $5. That's what we are doing.
