1st time cruise is Dec 22 a bad time?

We're thinking about taking our first cruise in 2013. We're looking at Dec 22 for 4 nights. Would this be a bad time to cruise for a first time cruiser?

No such thing as a bad time to cruise. Ship will be decorated for Xmas. May have lots of kids due to Xmas school break.

Sorry, I guess I don't understand the concept of a "bad" time to cruise. The ship will likely be full since this is a holiday. But the ships usually sail full if there is any way DCL can get them that way. The ship will be decorated. It will not be 106 degrees outside. It may or may not be too cool for you to be comfortable swimming, but that's up to you. It may or may not rain. It won't snow. The ship will be beautifully decorated and there will be special Christmas activities in addition to the regular activities.

What would make it a good or bad time?

Do you mean bad in terms of crowds? The ships will be crowded and have more more children on them during school break times than during off season times just like the parks. There is though a maximum number of people that can get on it so I wouldn't think it would feel as crowded as when the parks do when they hit maximum capacity. I don't know for sure though because so far I've only sailed during off peak times. The parks get so crowded at max peak times that it's hard to even walk around sometimes (I've been on new year's eve). I can't imagine they'd let the ship get and feel that crowded.

A full ship is nothing like a crowded day at the parks. The ships are made to sail full all the time--I've been on many "sold out" cruises. If they don't sell are full fare, DCL will offer specials to military, FL residents, CMs, travel agents, etc. in order to fill them.

The difference will be in the age mix of the kids--more school aged kids during traditional school breaks, more toddlers during school times when rates are lower. The only negative to your date is the fare you'll pay for a holiday cruise.

OK, thank you for the information. I think we may go since both of our jobs are closed during that time and we would not need to take vacation time.

You can find a decent rate for a Christmas week cruise. Just decide what you think is a good price for you

We weren't put off by our price at all. In fact, we thought it was a good deal considering it is a holiday week.

You vacation when you can.
