How long do chocolate covered pretzels last?

I'm talking about the homemade kind where you take a pretzel rod and dip it in chocolate? For some reason, I have never made these before but I think they would be a big hit at my brother's for Christmas Eve.

Fortunately, I do have Christmas Eve off, so I can make them that day but I'm just wondering if I decide to make them for other occasions? Is this something you can make ahead of time and how long should they last? Do you need to refrigerate them? Just store in a covered container?

Just store in covered container. I have made them no longer than a week ahead of time but I know others who have made then further in advance. If I make them sooner than that my family finds them and eats them first.

Just like normal pretzels they risk getting stale if they are out in the open.

In my house, 5 minutes.

Seriously, though, after a few days, the chocolate can start to pit and turn chalky. They taste fine, but don't look as nice. I would only make them a day or two before.

They don't need refrigeration, and look especially pretty if you sprinkle them with colored sugar or non-pariels. They're very quick to make, too.

Ok thanks. Yeah, I plan on getting some red/green/white sprinkles to spruce them up for Christmas.

Chocolate covered anything lasts about 15 minutes around here

I would love to be able to answer this question for you, but sadly, I cannot. I made some late last Saturday night and when I woke up on Sunday there were only a handful left, lol.

OP here.

So I bought a bucket of pretzel rods (there's probably 60 or so pretzels in there) and I also bought a big block of "almond bark" to melt down. Just wondering (if you use the almond bark) will the one be enough or do you think I need to pick up another one?

I can't tell you how long they'll last, but I can definitely say they're even better if you dip them in caramel, let them harden a little bit, then dip them in the chocolate. Yum!

OH BEHAVE!!!

I'll definitely be doing this. Do I get a couple bags of the little wrapped caramels? Never did dip stuff in caramel before, so unsure of what to use. I just went onto allrecipes.com and read some of the reviews. I read that people would "paint on" the caramel using the back of a spoon. I assumed I would be able to just dip them into the caramel, let them set then dip them again in chocolate, then add sprinkles. Can you not dip it in the caramel? Do you have to brush it on?

I think I'm going to get the little Kraft caramel "chips" to melt. It looks a lot easier than unwrapping all those caramels. I have a bucket of 60 pretzel rods that I plan on making up this weekend. How many bags of those little caramel bits do you think I'll need to cover those pretzels?
