Military Rates

Hello! We are booked on the March 16th 5 night cruise out of Miami. Our final payment is due December 31st. Our cruise rates haven't really changed since we first booked, and there is a lot of availability on our cruise. We are hoping Disney releases a military rate for our cruise. For those who have booked with the MTO, how far in advance did they release your rates? What happens if they are released after your paid in full date? Thanks for any help or advice.

Susan

They are usually released after the pif date. But from what I have read it's for new bookings only. It could not be applied to your current booking. You could cancel I'm sure and rebook but it would have to be worth any hares you would incur. I have found them to be 40-50% off...usually

Good luck!

We snagged a military offer that came out 2 months before our Western Caribbean cruise. (I don't think I will ever book a cruise in advance again. We have some flexibility in traveling, so will just wait for military or *GT rates.)

Military rates can be released at any time, although it is typically after the start of the penalty period. Rates were released this week for the Trans-Atlantic and it is NOT in penalty phase yet. Several people are posting that they have saved $500-1000 off their previous rate. I can tell you that the military rates for this cruise are lower than my day 1 booking with 10% off, even taking into account my OBC.

Military rates have different rules than other specials...some good, some bad. You can book up to 3 cabins on one military ID. However, if a rate is released after the penalty date, they will not reprice an existing reservation. You have to incur the penalty and rebook at the lower rate.

All you can do is to keep your eyes open, especially as the penalty date nears...and/or have a TA who will track this for you.

They had a great military rate for the Dec 1 Fantasy but you have to jump on it quick cause everyday that goes by is a day he penalty might go up. If we had done it, we would have saved us like $600 the first day but we didot find out till the next level of penalties and it wasn't worth it. Luckily they had a DVC sale

Thank you for the replies. I just keep checking every day with my fingers crossed. We have until January 1st and then penalties will start if we have to cancel and rebook. Any savings would be great, so we will just keep hoping.

We got a military rate on our cruise in 2006, and the travel agent was able to rebook it and sent us a refund to our credit card. I think they've changed the rules now and the MTO rates are only for new bookings, which doesn't work when we need time to book and save for a cruise. But at least our cruise never popped up for military rates, so I don't feel like we booked at a bad time.

According to a TA in our FB group that will be changing on 12/17/2012. She posted the following:

Quote:
Disney Cruise Line Military Rate Program Update
In honor of the brave men and women who serve this country, Disney Cruise Line® is proud to offer special military rates on select sail dates during the year. These sailings offer a great way for military families to reconnect and create memories while enjoying Disney’s legendary service.
Beginning Dec. 17, 2012, the following policies will go into effect for all new bookings:
Military personnel may book one stateroom under the military rates program.
A second stateroom may be confirmed, if needed, to accommodate immediate family members only. For example, a family of two adults and four children may confirm two staterooms, based on availability, with the offer. Extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) do not qualify as immediate family members for the second stateroom

Oh well, the info was accurate as to the day of posting. DCL seems to be changing a lot of things this year; thanks for posting the update. The other thing they changed is that the military person no longer has to cruise--a spouse ID will qualify (previously, the qualifying individual had to cruise, which had implications when a spouse was deployed, etc)

Hope the new policy works well for some!

We just got off the Fantasy this morning and it was a MTO sailing for my Mom and I since she is a retired military spouse. We booked on 10/11/12 for the 12/8/12 sailing.
