I've totally got to try this next time we plan on driving. Something tells me DW would take the drive by herself and make me wrangle the DD's on the plane with no help.

She told me the room wasn’t ready and they’d text me when it was. I’m sure the look on my face expressed my displeasure, because before I could even open my mouth to say anything she said even though check-in time is 3, the room may not be ready until 5.
Ugh!

Quote:
I just wanted to get us settled in so that we could get ready for our evening plans. I made the 1.78 mile hike back and forth between the parking lot and our room several times to haul all of our stuff in.
I wouldn't have blamed you if you had just pulled up on the lawn at this point and done a couple of donuts before backing it up to your door.

Quote:
I did like the feature of the sliding doors near the sink area so that I could get ready in the morning without waking everyone else, but as I’ve seen others mention, they aren’t the best idea with a toddler around. DS was constantly opening and closing them all week. I really wish there was some kind of latch system on them to keep them either opened or closed.
But then there would be no way for them to smash their fingers or their siblings heads in there.

Quote:
It was definitely a rough first few hours at the resort, and our tempers were all a bit short after the drive and lack of sleep. We had planned to get a short nap in before our evening plans, but the delay in getting into a room kind of killed that idea. Oh well, it’s nothing a nice refreshing shower can’t fix. It’s time to get cleaned up, change clothes and go enjoy our evening. We had some friends to meet for dinner!
Disney can be like Vegas where you can just go and go and go. There's always time for sleep when you get home.

So excited that you started!

Travel days are always the worst for us. Even though it seems like they should be so exciting because you are heading to DISNEY WORLD, after all, but there always seems to be lack of sleep involved which leads to short nerves. I think this past trip was the first time we didn't get into some sort of argument, and I mostly attribute that to the fact that we were not up and moving before dawn like we usually are!

That is pretty cool that your mom got a photo of your car (and ONLY your car!) going under the sign!!

Hopefully everyone was feeling refreshed after getting to clean up a bit.

I'm in! Love the title!

Sorry that check in was rough. We've all let things like that get the better of us.

I hope that you really did love the location and room, and can't wait to hear more

Great start! It will be fun to read your TR as we anticipate our trip in a few weeks... I'll esp. be interested to hear your take/strategy on New FL.

Well if you turn off the invisibility feature, it should be fast enough that you can take your own picture of yourself driving under it.

That would be an understatement. I knew you'd mentioned that in your TR, but the thing just seemed like it didn't always want to work for us whether it was in my wallet or pressed directly against the reader.

It doesn't really bother me. I do like driving at night though, so that the kids can sleep for most of it. It isn't really the cost so much as the fact that I just prefer to have our own transportation and it is so much easier to handle all our "cargo" this way.

I really think that Disney should note on your reservation if you are driving. I'm serious - there should be a way to note "Driving from X. Up all night. Needs available room on arrival." That must have been very difficult to have driven all night and not be greeted with a ready room.

Cool picture of you guys driving through the arches. Love that.

So tell me about the "up al night" drive thing. As I told you, we are driving in June. Just how unbearable is it to drive through the night. We aren't planning on doing that right now, but I'm just curious. Do you ever feel like you are just going to pass out at the wheel.

Love your location at CSR. Very pretty.

Looking forward to more!

And that’s the important key to this story.

Try as I might to give you a hard time through out this here TR (and be assured, I will), in the end you win, because I don’t have a trip of any length planned to get back down there for quite some time to come. Paint me as green as the hulk with envy. You described a fairly rough day, but it’s a great start to the TR itself.

Nice work. I’m looking forward to hearing more, sir.
I hated starting a TR like this. I don't want to seem like I wasn't having a good time, or come of as complaining about everything, but those first few hours just weren't fun and that's just the way things were. Things definitely get better though.

Why, I am deeply insulted.

That was for the CMs reading along… truth: It’s quite the collection.
Hay like I said… it’s going to be a while before I can get back down there.
A little bit of magic around the house seemed like just the upgrade needed.

You just take the towel animals though, right?

We actually checked 12:30 PM as our arrival time on the online check in. This was a "best case scenario" time if we didn't make any stops other than when we needed gas, so I figured that they'd assign us rooms that should be ready by then. Apparently not.

It doesn't bother me much at all. I don't mind driving though, and I've done it several times. The most important thing to me is making sure that I get a good nap in before we leave. If I can get 4 or 5 hours of sleep right before we head out, I don't have any problem staying awake for the drive. As long as I can get a nap or at least a full 8 hours of sleep the first night, the lack of sleep that first night doesn't really affect me much. I'm sure everyone is different though.
I love driving all night because we can get there so much faster. As long as everyone else is tired and sleeps through the night, I only have to stop for fuel and then we've only got to keep the kids entertained for a few hours after they wake up.

It was definitely a beautiful resort! It might have been less than ideal for us, but the property was scenic and very well maintained to say the least.

Great job on getting a lot of highway behind you before breakfast. I'm impressed.

That is kind of cool to have a picture of your vehicle going under the sign. I know I've taken a couple for others, but they haven't stopped by to thank me.

Oh man, sorry about your room-readiness delay at check-in. Maybe you should've dropped some hints before she dropped the bomb....."Yeah, that bed is sure going to feel good after driving straight through for 16 hours."

And Barry thinks his van is so impressive.

That's awfully inconsiderate after you went out of the way to do that for them!

Good idea! My brain just wasn't working that fast at that point in the day.
