Transfering points

Im looking to book a trip next fall but I am going to be about 50 pts short of what I need to do it. I know that I can get an additional 24 from DVC but could someone explain to me the process of buying/transfering points? Would I be buying points from another member and having them transfered into my account? I guess Im not sure how the process works. Any help would be appreciated. TIA!

Having points transferred in to your account from another owner is a private transaction. You would need to look on the Rent/Trade board for an owner advertising their points as available for transfer. If the points have been banked, they can't be transferred (not all owners seem to know this!).

If you are trying to book in the home resort booking window, you will need to find points that have the same home resort that you do, as transferred points retain their original home resort and UY. Also, be sure that the points can be used when you need them. You can bank transferred in points, as long the banking window hasn't passed, but you can not borrow transferred in points.

Lastly, the one time purchase points from Disney can only be obtained at the 7 month window. The maximum is 24 points per UY and they cost $15 per point. Hope this helps.

So if I understand what your saying, its basically a private transaction between myself and another member? Seems a little risky based on not know who your dealing with. Thanks for your help.

The Timeshare Store can act as an intermediary between you and the other owner.

We used them last year when we needed some points. We told them what we needed and they found an owner willing to transfer. As it was our first time and we are still a fairly new owners, we were very specific in what we wanted to do with these points. This way, the correct resort and use year was made available to us. We had to take a few extra points but it did not matter to us.

We transferred the money to TTS. As you cannot see the points yourself online, you have to call MS to make sure they are there.
You advise the TTS and I believe it is at that point that they release the money to the other owner.

It worked very well for us and we would use them again if needed.

It took me a really long time to find information on Transferring points. There's lots of info out there about Renting, but very little about Transferring, even on these boards the info is quite limited.

Here's what I've found out:

1 - Transferring points for cash is against DVC policy (so don't mention it to DVC)

2 - You can Transfer points into OR out of your account once per year (not both)

3 - It's a bit more secure because you are in control of the points instead of waiting until you arrive at the resort to find out whether or not you actually have a reservation (DVC will NOT talk to renters on the phone, only the Owner)

4 - There is still a risk so research whom you're dealing with (check Florida's Comptroller to make sure they actually own property; check whichever board you're on for previous posts <DisBoards seems to have very few people who Transfer points>; google them <you may be surprised to find out how much information you can find out about people on google>; ask for references and check them)

5 - There comes a point where it's a mutual trust issue and that's when you actually transfer the cash and points. One of you will have to "go first" or you can transfer 1/2 the cash prior to the transfer of points and the other 1/2 after. I highly suggest using PayPal for this service (though it will cost the "seller" about $100 so factor that into costs). The advantage of PayPal is that it's pretty much an instantaneous transfer of funds.

6 - Either you will both have to be on the phone with DVC to transfer the points, or the "seller" will have to have the account number of the "buyer". The latter can be a trust issue. I recommend that the "seller" call DVC then have DVC call the "buyer" (the seller will require the name and phone number DVC has on file for the account). (that being said, in my experience I gave my "seller" my account number since I had no issue with trusting him)
