Does the iPhone 5 have turn-by-turn navigation, specifically Google Maps? If not, what excellent app options are there for audible turn-by-turn navigation?
My husband and I currently have Android phones but we hate their app store and prefer the clean Apple interface -- however, I LOVE Google Maps navigation and if I can't get a high quality navigation app on the iPhone it would be a definite deal breaker for me! It doesn't have to be Google Maps, but it does have to have the audible directions. Also, as someone who would not store any music or video on their phone (only some photos and maybe 10-20 normal apps...no fancy games just simple ones but would have navigation) the 16gb would be adequate, correct?

It does not have Google Maps yet and my husbands iPhone5 stinks at navigation.
I have an android phone and thats what we usually use for navigation.

I love the app Waze. Gives you audible turn-by-turn directions and also accounts for traffic and construction.

The apple map that comes on the phone isn't the best but it isn't the worst for navigation. it is audible. I use navigon for my navigation or mapquest.

I have a bunch of apps and photos on my iPhone 5 with 16gb, and it's fine. We deliberated about that, too, and I am glad I went with the 16gb as it's more than enough.

This is the reason I am the proud new owner of the Iphone 5 and my husband went back to the Android. He LOVES the maps on the Adroid. I have not had any problems with the map feature on the iphone 5, but I also use mapquest also.

Great! Thank you all for your help! It sounds like I should be fine with Mapquest and if not, at least there are other options available.
I'm glad the 16gb will be plenty of space...saves us $100 on each phone!

What about a map with traffic? I don't need turn by turn, I need the traffic map!
I have an iPhone4, still on the iOS 3. I'm afraid to upgrade (it will go right to iOS 5) becasue I'm afraid to lose my map app (the standard one that came with the phone). The traffic on that thing is way better than the traffic reporters. That's probably my favorite thing on my iPhone. At least every morning and night it is! |

We use Garmin Street Pilot. It works as well as our own stand alone GPS. It cost about $50

I haven't had any issues with Apple Maps and the turn-by-turn navigation.

I actually love the iPhone 5 turn by turn navigation. It has found addresses that my car's could not. I have not had any problems with the new maps, and like it better than the former google maps. Prior to the 5 I purchased the TomTom app for iPhone. It is GREAT and worth the $50 or so I paid for it.

So, what is the consensus with the iPhone 5 for navigation?
Mapquest? I am getting an iPhone 5 for Christmas and I want turn by turn voice navigation just to get me around my borough. If I needed to go long distances my dh would drive or I would use my GPS. So, if I want to just get from point A to B around my neighborhood, I should download mapquest and it talks? Is it free? I don't have a smartphone now so all this is new to me. Thanks. |
