Pet insurance!
I just had to share that I now LOVE pet insurance. Our puppy had to have knee surgery, to the tune of $1400. The pet insurance is covering over $1000! I am so happy with them and it was so easy. I went with Healthy Paws, and so far I am so pleased. I just had to share! So anyway, if you are thinking or not thinking of it for your puppy (provided you don't have any issues with said animal now), I highly recommend it. I think I am paying about $35/month for $100 deductible and 90% copay.
I know a lot of people say to just put the $35 in a savings account for the 'just in case', but for me, it is nice not worrying about it. (Kinda like car/home/life insurance - you don't want to use it, but if you need it it is there).

I have the same plan through Healthy Paws and I love it!!!! I used to have a plan through VPI which was not as good because they based what they paid you on what they considered typical fees whereas Healthy Paws pays me 90% of the actual vet fee no matter what they charge.
I put my puppy on Healthy Paws when I first got him so there were zero pre-existing conditions. He has since had to have 2 surgeries due to a respiratory problem and he also had a hospital stay due to an infected wound. The insurance plan has laid out close to $5000 yes thousand this year and I have paid $35 a month for the plan. I don't skimp on anything for him since it's covered. They cover his daily medication that keeps the respiratory issue in check and they cover every refill of the meds at 90%. I love that when the vet faxes the claim form in for me, I usually have the email with the insurance claim approved that day and the check in the mail a few days later! |

I "third" the love for Healthy Paws! I love how they cover EVERYTHING, and it has always been easy and FAST to get reimbursed by them. And I love how the deductible is per YEAR, not per incident.

Thank you. I have also debated about putting my pup on pet insurance but it might be too late. Every year she gets ear infections and I have taken her in twice for spots on her tummy. They want us to bring her in to the dermatologist because she is probably allergic to something. We did the strict prescription diet and it didn't help, so I am guessing that would be now considered a pre-existing condition.
