Humidifier Help

My 24 year old son is waking up everyday with dry mouth.

He is healthy and has had a physical.

Drinks lots of water, brushes and rinses every night before bed. I believe he may be sleeping with his mouth open.

Do you think a humidifier would help?

Can you recommend a humidifier?

Our doctor suggested using one in the bedrooms in the winter. I sure couldn't hurt.

We recently bought a Vicks cool mist humidifier to replace our really old one that we couldn't buy filters for anymore. Bought through CVS when I had a 25% off coupon.

I sleep with my mouth open/am a mouth breather and I do wake up with a really dry mouth some mornings.

I love my humidifiers! We have one in each of the 4 bedrooms. We are all totally healthy people, it's just so nice to wake up feeling great and refreshed instead of dry and chalky.

We bought a Vicks Warm Mist unit from Rite Aid, I think it was regular price $40.00, but we used a coupon and whatnot to bring down the price a bit.

Even at 40 bucks, it's worth every penny. I usually get 3 years out of one because we have hard water, and there is buildup on the element that heats.

We are opposite. We have a dehumidifier in the basement and it keeps the upstairs in check as well for winter. We don't have a vent in the bathroom (single story) or kitchen, so all the steam from those two rooms spread throughout the house. Humidity in the winter is about 60-75% upstairs (dehumidifier set at 65% in the basement which cycles on at 65% and off at 60%.) Any lower in the basement and it is way too cold to be comfortable.

Reading about humidity, seems that 50% is considered high. I don't think I could afford to run the dehumidifier any longer than it is now and at 60% it is comfortable. The AC unit (window unit) keeps the living area in check during the summer, but doesn't do a whole lot for back in the bedrooms.

I run one in bedroom during winter. I was having bloody scabs before. I personally got a warm mist one as the cool mist one cooled room to much IMO. WE have an older trailer and insulation sucks, I'm sure. I used cool mist one at work and it seemed to help me, and other staff.

How about encouraging him to find out why he is a mouth breather? This could be a medical issue preventing him from breathing through his nose at night. A "physical" might not have been thorough enough to determine this, especially if he did not mention the problem. He may need to see an ENT and then possibly a sleep specialist, especially if he snores.

I use one almost year round since it really helps with my allergies. I have the Crane Drop cool mist humidifier. I picked that one since it doesn't require filters. You can buy a seperate filter that filters your water. I do this since we have really hard water. It is almost like a Brita filter for the humidifier. I had it die on me right before the year warranty was up. Crane sent me a new one with no issues.

OP, I got one at Costco last year when I was having sinus problems. Now my youngest uses it. Also, this one has blue light on it and it kills the germs in the water. It's a cool mist and it's absolutely silent.

I agree, you should see why your son is a mouth breather. Good luck.

I couldn't live without one in the bedroom in the winter. As for brands, I've been through several, all purchased at home depot, all seem to last about 2 winters. So, I don't buy the top of the line, but not the cheapest either.

I did have a cute frog one when my son was a baby but your 24 your old might not want that.
