If you HAD to eat at Cap'n Jack's .... UPDATED 1/16 -- ate there tonight!

what would you order? We haven't eaten there in years, but, due to a family situation, we will be eating there for dinner one evening in January. This place seldom gets good reviews, but there must be a few tasty items. If you've eaten there recently, what did you like? TIA!

When faced with situation I usually order the thing on the menu that would be the hardest to screw up. A burger, salad, something like that.

Agree with the PP. Order something basic. Unfortunately, I don't think CJ's serves burgers. They do have a caesar salad as an entree and you can add chix to it. Good Luck, and just make the best of the situation.

Someone in our group had the pot roast and it had large pieces of fat in it and two others had the salmon which was very dry. I agree with above, go for something they really can't screw up too bad. Hoping you have better luck than we did!

1) I would not eat dinner there.
2) But, being "forced" as you are, stay with drinks and snacks.
3) Eat your main meal before or after the rest eat at Jack's.

*********************************************

Our Ratings of Cap'n Jack's: (rev 7/20/2012)
. . . food price value: D
. . . food quality: D
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: C
. . . food selection: B
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: B
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: D
. . . characters: n/a

NOTE: Jack's is GREAT for appetizers and cocktails. Tasty appys and
great view over the water. For meals, pass it by. And pass by quickly.
The service is mixed, and the dinner food quality is well below average.
I give good and bad reviews of eateries, but Cap'n Jack's is only one of
the few places in WDW that I actually recommend against for meals.

Other coping strategies would include:
  • Eating elsewhere first and then just ordering a salad, telling everyone that you just aren't hungry;
  • Claiming that you are on a diet and ordering as little as possible;
  • Pretending that it is Ramadan and fasting;
  • Sneaking in something from Earl of Sandwich.

Not the best!

Family situation uhm! Then I would make sure I ate a very hearty lunch at the restaurant of my choice and have soup and dessert at Cap'n Jacks! Vegetable soup, as my son says, "It's hard to screw up soup!"

It's either the worst clam chowder I have ever eaten, or the tastiest wall paper paste that I have ever eaten. A truly vile execution of a classic dish.

I am in the minority I know. But i like capt jacks. Last year my husband and I both got clam chowder- and while its not a great clam chowder (I live in Boston- I know chowder) it's not bad, it's similar to the Campbell's brand. He got a salmon and enjoyed it so much he asked that we go again next year. I'm not huge into seafood so I got the penne Alfredo- and it was a great meal for me and I would get it again in a second. Just go in with an open mind and hopefully it will work out

OP here. So, we ate at Capt Jack's tonight and .......... it wasn't bad! We were a party of 9, two of whom were small kiddos. My SIL and I had the pot roast. Not bad - I could have it again. BIL had the penne pasta - didn't complain. Someone had the crab cakes - they were fine. Marina Margarita was actually very good. Our server didn't have much personality, but, she was efficient. I'll take efficient over personality every time. So, bottom line, I wouldn't seek it out, but I don't feel such a need to avoid CJ's as I did before. Thank you all for your advice and encouragement!
