Jury duty question

I am called to jury duty tomorrow and wondered if I am allowed my iPad for reading since instructions recommended bringing a book, crossword, etc. for the waiting times. My purse is large enough to hold it.
I have never served before (civil court). Anyone know?

I took my DS & a Book last time but there were others who had nooks & stuff. I would take it & some kind of back up. And a bottle of water & a jacket or sweater.

That is up to your individual court system. I was allowed to bring my Kindle last year but now they don't allow any electronics.

You should be fine with the book and crossword.

It's very dependent on your location and what court. Go online and check for your county/jurisdiction court and see what is allowed (most list items forbidden).

When I went, I sat for hours before we ever got into the courtroom.

and don't forget the charger.

Out courts allow and they even have wall plugs sprinkled all over for power.

All depends on the judge and court.

Most people dread jury duty but it's a wonderful thing. YOU get to decide everything, including the validity of the law and if it even applies or if it's constitutional.

The jury seat is the most important seat in a free society. Www.fija.org

enjoy it!

my husband just did Jury Duty last month. The instructions they sent stated that you ARE allowed to bring a laptop, but there is no wifi available, so based on that, I would say that an iPad would indeed be allowed, but your state might be different

It was stated in my summons that you were absolutely NOT allowed to bring anything (few years ago before the tablet and even smartphone craze.) No newspapers, no magazines, no books, nothing. I was the only one who followed the rules. I sat there twiddling my thumbs for 9 long boring hours while every single other person was reading something.

When I served I was allowed to bring my phone & e-reader but I had to leave my camera in the car. (I almost always carry one & forgot it was in my bag) but only in the jury room. My dh was picked for a case and he had to leave his phone in the car.

But as stated above, he should check with the court house. Worst case he has to bring it back to the car. Maybe he should bring the paper or a book just in case.

I had to serve last month. When sitting in the "waiting area" we could have anything we wanted. They did have wifi, but you needed to sign your life away for the password, and shockingly it was fast. It helped pass the 6 hours until I was able to leave.

I am on jury duty now. We are allowed to bring whatever we want. People bring kindles, smart phones, books, papers, etc. to use in the holding room. The only stipulation is that electronics (mainly cell phones) must be off when in the courtroom.

As long as you don't mind locking it in the car I'd go ahead and bring it. Most courts these days let you have electronics while waiting, but if they won't let you have it you'll have to lock it in the car. A few years ago I was picked for a case that lasted six weeks (yes, six weeks!). I complained when I first got picked but it ended up being FASCINATING. The first day was the worst because we spent 2/3 of the day waiting and I was glad I had my smart phone and a book.

We are not allowed to bring anything into court that has a camera. That includes all cells phones, iPads...

Our court has 3 different areas for Wfi and they give you a print out where they/outlets are for jurors. They have books, magazines and puzzles all over the tables.
