Cruising with special needs child

One of my daughters (who will turn 5 on our cruise in May) has special needs. She can walk, use the potty, etc., but she's tiny for her age and has some other developmental delays, her biggest which is speech (she's non verbal, but knows some ASL and has a communication device). Does DCL offer any assistance or make any special accommodations for kids with special needs? TIA for any info!

DCL will work with you as far as they can to meet your child's needs. They openly state that they cannot provide one on one care for any child. Many of the CMs sign a little (for a deaf child, DCL will provide an interpreter).

2 thoughts--you'll find a lot of info on the Dis-abilities section of the boards. Make the CMs aware of the situation when you do your on line check in--the more info you can give them, the more helpful they can be.

We cruised when our now almost 11 year old DS was 5 and was non-verbal. We simply told the staff of his situation and there were two CM's who really took to him and helped him out!

I really wish we could have a section under the disabilities section for just cruising! There seems to be a lot of us! .

Sorry sent that without finishing!

We just did the 11/3 magic cruise with our 4 youngest. Our DD 10 is special needs, hearing impaired and developmentally delayed. My advice is to do your first drop off at the club at a time when it isn't busy, then explain to all the CMs there exactly what your daughters abilities are. We filled out all the forms, made calls to DCL, and noted our DDs needs in her club registration but really needed to explain everything face to face. The CMs were fantastic with her!!!
