Online check-in and Port Arrival time confusion!

I just completed my online check-in and it gave us a port arrival time of 1:00. We are taking Disney transportation from the airport (staying at the Hyatt the night before). If we get there before 1:00, are we going to have to wait until 1:00 to even go into the port? I am so confused! Should we take it easy in the morning and not worry about being on the first bus? Or, if we are on the first bus, will we have to sit around until 1:00? Thanks for your help!

I had a similar question. I picked 12 when I had the choice for port arrival time. But I'm staying in Fort Lauderdale the night before. I requested 10a pickup? Is that to early or to late? I know it's about 30-40 minutes from
Miami. What happens if we arrive to early? Or even later then 12?

On our last cruises they were letting people into the terminal at 11:30 that had an arrival time after 1PM, so it appeas that they are not enforcing the arrival time.

I hope this is true in our case! I'm traveling with a grandma and a 84 y/o great grandma and I am almost positive they will get cranky waiting.

With the DCL transportation from the airport, you aren't supposed to have to wait; one of the perks of it is that you can go right onboard.

If you are taking DCL transfers from MCO to port, the Port Arrival Time is moot. You still need to select one when doing your online checkin to complete the checkin process, but, with DCL transfers, you will enter the port at whatever time the bus gets there.

Checking in at MCO (for the cruise) before getting on the bus will get you a lower boarding number, from what I read here.

You can check in at MCO anytime after they open (8:30, but sometimes earlier).

As above, if you are using DCL transportation, your scheduled arrival time doesn't matter at all. You will check in for the cruise at MCO, you will get your boarding card there with a better number than you would have gotten at the terminal, and you will get into the terminal as soon as the bus arrives.

Totally easy.

The reason you are required to schedule an arrival time is that people do change their plans. Disney doesn't want to deal with the complaints from people who didn't choose an arrival time because they had booked DCL transportation and then canceled it--moved to private transportation and now there are no "good" times left. The way the system works now, you get an arrival time. If you use the planned transportation, you get a better boarding pass, so you don't complain.

If you arrive at the port earlier than your selected Port Arrival Time on private transportation (not DCL transfers), and the terminal is full, you may be asked to wait until either the terminal is less busy, or your PAT, whichever occurs first.

Now, that being said, here's how it goes.

The port opens at 11:00 (occasionally a bit earlier). At 11:45 (also, occasionally earlier) the boarding process begins. Boarding number 1 is called (Concierge), then #2 (Platinum), then #3, and so on. The numbers increase approximately every 5-10 minutes, depending on how quickly the line is going.

Prior to the boarding process, the terminal can be quite full and unable to accomodate anyone besides the people who have the 11:00-11:30 PAT window. Once the boarding process starts, the terminal frees up fairly quickly and by 12:15-12:30 (approximately) anyone arriving at the port will be allowed to enter the terminal.

I will point out that your boarding number which you receive when you check in at the port is tied to your PAT. You will receive the same number if you check in early or at the correct time. So, even if you are allowed in early, you will see others arriving after you (at their correct PAT) boarding before you do. Once the boarding number being announced catches up with the number being issued at checkin, Open Boarding is announced, and you may board at anytime after that.

What happens if you arrive AFTER your PAT? We are taking non-Disney transportation and they are picking us up between 11;30 and 12. There may or may not be more hotels that the bus stops at. So, I was going to request a PAT around 12:15, but we might be later.

The PAT times you choose at online check in are in 30 min increments starting at 11:00-11:30, 11:30-12:00, 12:00-12:30, etc.

No problem arriving later than your PAT. If you select a PAT and happen to get there later you will just board when you get there, as long as they have already called your number (which you will get when you check in at the desk at the terminal).
