Getting Sick from Eating?

I have been coming to Walt Disney World for the last 24 years and have eaten at many of the restaurants on property.

This year, we decided (after becoming APH) to visit in October/November which means we visited the Food & Wine Festival a couple of times. The first, my mom used a snack credit for the baklava and really enjoyed it.

Last night, I bought the Lamb Chop (from Australia) (she charged me instead of using a snack credit). It was good but very rare (which I am not used to). Some of it was more cooked than other parts and one part was so rare it was almost dripping with blood. It was alright and I actually didn't like the mint pesto and potato crunchies topping. After a couple of hours, I ate some of the ravioli from Italy (which was fantastic) but couldn't finish it because I started to get really full. After about 3-4 hours (around the time Illuminations began), I started feeling nauseous to the point I had to keep putting my head down and missed some of the fireworks. I also had a fever

It has been almost 24 hours and thankfully the nausea has subsided (not by a lot though) and there was no vomiting at all. However, I have had diarrhea which was a very pale yellow colour (sorry for the kind of gross info).

My mom came back to the room a few minutes ago and said she talked to a woman who's daughter was also sick (from eating a salad) and had to go to the hospital.

I have a feeling it was the lamb that got me sick but you never know.

The worst part is we are leaving tomorrow. I hate being sick in bed while on vacation

It is possible it was from a virus and not food poisoning. I hope you feel better soon.

Yep it could also be a virus Just looked at the symptoms and I had them all (except for the vomiting).

It also has been close to 24 hours and food poisoning runs usually 24-48 hours.

Thanks I just wish I wasn't sick now with only one day left of our vacation, lol.

By way of a random fact, a terrible bug has been sweeping through the WDW CMs. Sounds like you got an extra souvenir.

We just had to postpone our October trip due to a stomach bug. We are leaving on Saturday and it looks like I'll get to worry while I'm there too. Are that many CM's sick? I sure hope Disney will keep them away from food service!

I don't think it's just the CM's. It's visitors that go sick as well. There is a stomach bug going on at my DD's school as well.

Keeping hands to yourself and not touching your face and hand washing are the best techniques for keep viruses at bay.

We've been back a week and I got sick twice while there. The first time was our first park day and we ate 3 meals - it was just too much food and was heavy on my stomach.

The 2nd time was our 1st Epcot day. I ordered a Mimosa in Morroco - it didn't taste like the mimosas I've had before. After that we went to Tutto Italia and had wine for dinner. Something upset my stomach - I was sick during the night but good to go the next day. That was the only day we had alcohol so that may have been it - the two probably weren't a good combination.

Fortunately I had packed Pepto - that really helped.

We were there Oct 13-27 and we heard of multiple people sick with a stomach virus. There was also a respiratory thing going around (DS came home with pneumonia) Lots of people = lots of germs

I too would suspect a virus before the lamb - Australian lamb is often prepared rarer than most Americans are used to having meat cooked. It isn't like pork or poultry, which generally must be cooked through fully to be safe.

We've gotten more and more cautious over the years about contact with handles, railings, and other things that other people may have touched. It just prudence, now, to wash up frequently, just in case.

It's fairly widespread. They're having staffing problems in multiple areas due to an illness that's been bugging CMs since mid-Sept.

As to if they're kept away from food prep areas, like most viruses, the time where you start to be contagious is often before symptoms show. So even diligance on the part of Disney in containing sick employees isn't enough to prevent a viral illness.

I can verify the respiratory illness... I started to get sick on the last day I was at WDW, by the time I'd been back a week, I had a severe cough that lasted well over a month. My other half got the same thing. We traveled in the same window as an entire group of our friends (we were all traveling for Food and Wine) and every last one of them got sick. Mine developed to bronchitis, my other half's developed into pneumonia.

Probably just a minor case of food poisoning. F&W is a perfect setting for food borne illnesses.
It's not some super bug that's sweeping the country as many people here seem to think. "You got sick in Florida? OMG, my sister just got sick in Montana!" Come on, people..

Nobody is saying there's a super bug anywhere, only that there's an illness going around CMs at WDW. Which there is. F&W may be a perfect setting for food poisoning, but WDW is a perfect setting for a flu/virus. So no "come on people" needed, it's just common sense.

I am feeling a lot better now than I was but still do have a tiny bit of nausea. One of the cast members at the front desk told my mom it may have been the food at the F&W since it sits out a lot (and I ate mine near the end of the night).
