Wow. If its the one I am thinking of. I do remember however, some people calling bs earlier in that thread.

Christmas shopping? Getting a little panicked. It always comes together eventually but trying not to stress.

I gather it's the "I'm 7 months pregnant and..." thread. I also thought it was off from the beginning and never posted on it.

I have recently thought about making another user name, though, to tell my sob story. But I don't...I sometimes type up some stuff (like on some recent threads about 2012 grade and Not being ready for Christmas) and then delete it...it helps to just type it up and get it out.

So, NO, I am NOT ready for Xmas and am not sure how I'm going to get there.

Given that the OP said she moved countries, my guess (and it is only a guess) is that the IP didn't also move countries.

Like some others, something about that thread did seem a bit "off" from the beginning. And, no, I don't understand what people get from that sort of thing.

Today is our company's holiday lunch - always good food and some good prizes (which I've never won - but maybe this will be my year?). Cookie making weekend with my aunt, sister-in-law, and nephew - he's three, so there is always a lot of fun (and a lot of mess).

I have an idea about how the mods figured out it was fake. I also think there are still quite a few fakers still here and posting regularly.

Oh well C'est La Vie!It was a great story. Very well crafted and believed.

As far as Christmas, tree is up and a few decorations. I did some shopping for my nephews so far.

I felt like Klinger from MASH! We literally had 3 that qualified for needed a couple days off to attend the wake/funerals -- my maternal grandmother, my paternal grandmother & then my MIL all within a couple months of each other. They DID question my brother when he told them his Grandmother died -- they were like "wait your Grandmother just died a couple months ago?" -- Yes...this is my OTHER Grandmother. My MIL's was the weird one that if I weren't living it not sure I would believe it but it did make front page news but I tried to keep that one more quiet anyway so wouldn't have posted all the details at that time.)

Not that I know of.

Anyway -- as for Christmas shopping -- I only have 1 thing and since my DD just joined the DIS hoping to do the College Program I can't say much for presents. I have some ideas on what I want to get people but just haven't done it, nor am I sure when I'm going to do it. It will get done eventually one way or another.

On a different note, how is everyone doing with their present shopping and holiday preparations? I've barely started and need to get a quick jumpstart.
Unfortunately, it happens. I won't waste my time trying to figure out why someone would do something like that. It's not worth my energy. Karma will catch up to them at some point.

Anyway, I am another one who just barely started shopping. I know exactly what I need to buy. I just have to get my little self to the store and get it done.

I posted once but wasn't emotionally invested in her story. I did believe her story right up UNTIL she posted about her new arrival. She wrote his weight and height and then said something along the lines of... "I don't know what else to say about him," and I knew then, FAKE.

Yes, early in the thread, some had some suspicion but chalked the lack of updates to the OP being busy getting her life in order.

I do hope there was solid evidence of not being truthful. I would hate to think of someone being accused when they weren't lying.

Anyway, I'm putting up the tree this weekend! It's a bit hard to get into the Christmas spirit here. It's the middle of summer here in Australia, and I'm used to my white Canadian holidays. But, that said, I am so grateful for the experience of being here, even if Christmas feels odd!
When we were putting up our decorations, it was in the 80's here. My husband and I joked that we were pretending that we lived in Australia and that this was just normal... and that we needed to buy a Prius

As far as the thread goes, I questioned it at first, but when she kept it up, I really started to feel sorry for her and assumed it must be true. I mean, what kind of pathetic loser goes to that kind of extreme on the internet?

I'm guessing that the OP's IP address matched another one in use, and that the "stories" being told were wildly different (such as different number of kids, etc).

Sad that people have so little going on in their lives that they feel the need to create a whole new story. I must admit that it seemed a little "off" to me, but hey, I'm always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt. I certainly wasn't lining up to send her money or gifts or anything like that, so it cost me nothing. Emotional support, which is all I would ever offer to a stranger, is something I will extend, even if I am wrong.

The thing that seemed most ridiculous to me was the way her "DH" was acting. No one is quite that self-absorbed. The "text" that allegedly said "he's cute...congrats" in particular was more than off.

I'll admit it, I totally bought it. My normal cynical nature must have been on vacation. So yeah, call me a sucker.

Crap like that really makes me think twice about offering support to anyone.
