How do I pay for checked luggage for the return flight - participating airline

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I did a search and nothing came up so I apologize in advance if it's a redundant question.

For the last two Dream cruises, we flew SWA and we knew they were not a participating airline and therefore we had to claim our luggage after we disembarked, went through customs with the help of a porter, put the bags on the bus, checked them in at the airport. As most people know, SWA's first two bags are free so we don't pay luggage fees on SWA. Got it

For my Fantasy cruise in 2 days, I'm using USAirways since it was easier for my Mom and I and I understand they are a participating airline and of course they do have luggage fees. I've already checked in and paid for the luggage fees going down to MCO. How and when can I pay for the return portion? DCL knows we are using USAirways since it's in our reservation info, however is it up to me to check in when we arrive back at Port Canaveral and then pay online for the luggage or can I do that through DCL at guest services before we arrive back at Port Canaveral?

Sorry for being so long winded to ask what feels like a very simple question

Thanks in advance,
Heather

When we used the transfer for our return on the Fantasy this past September the baggage fee's were added to our onboard account. The last night we recieved the boarding passes and luggage tag. I do have to say though we flew delta and our bag was left in Orlando and we had to go to the office in SLC and file a claim and it was delivered early morning around 2 am.

I don't know if thats normal or not but thats what happened to us, everything else was fun and the flight attendants noticed we cruised with Disney and asked how it was when we boarded the flight

Awesome - thanks for replying! So if they add it to my onboard account that makes it very easy! I hope we have better luck with our luggage arriving

Thanks,
Heather

Yes it will be charged via your onboard charges. Side note, American Express reimburses us for a certain amount of luggage fees but wouldn't for our return bag fees because the charge is generated from dcl (even though our on board receipt clearly shows charges for XX airline baggage fees). Just FYI. Overall, very easy!

Thank you and I appreciate the explanation!

Thanks,

One thing to be aware of: If you are traveling on an airline that charges for checked luggage, and you get that fee waived because you have elite status, this will not happen automatically unless you sign up for on-board check-in while on board.

There are three ways to sign up for the on-board check-in:
- Online when doing online check-in prior to departure
- When finalizing check-in just prior to boarding
- After departure while on board by filling out form provided by stateroom host

The first two methods don't have any means to convey your frequent flyer number as part of the check-in request - only the on-board form has a space for it. Even if you ask at the terminal before boarding, they will tell you that their computer has no space to put it in and no place to put in a note. And, without that ff number, the people on-board that do the check-in won't know you have elite status and are entitled to waived baggage fees, and will charge your stateroom account for them. The fact that your ff number is on the reservation with the airline won't help.

Also, if you have no airline status but have a credit card that waives the bag fees, and/or are traveling in a premium cabin that comes with free bags, there appears to be no way to convey this in order to avoid the bag fees. You have to go to Guest Services on the final morning to have your bill adjusted.

I am a Platinum flyer with Delta and we were charged for the baggage fees. I just had to present my FF Card to them and they credited all the charges.

It's me - OP here

It all worked out just as several of you mentioned - directly to our onboard account. I also applied my last Disney gift cards to my onboard to offset the fees and it all worked out just fine - very easy.

In addition, the CM mentioned she could move my Mom's luggage fees to my card since I had asked if it was possible as I explained I wanted to pay for hers as well since the cruise was my treat. We ended up not doing this as my Mom and I worked it out but it was nice to know for friends traveling together they can do this for you.
