Best rooting for a child's tablet

I bought a Nook Color for my 5YO and plan to root it for her. I have a Droid so she is used to playing on the platform, but it's still not as foolproof as apple products. There are so many ways to root that I'm overwhelmed...and I wonder if one way is better than another for a child. She will want to play apps and read books on it.

Also, I bought a Nook Tablet for myself and plan to root it as well, so advice on that one as well is appreciated. I plan to do a lot of surfing and apps on it (I want to take it to school so my kids can use it for learning games). Thanks!

I've also considered just buying the androidfornook.com SD cards since I'd have to buy the cards anyway and this seems pretty foolproof. ??

My DS13 got Androidfornook SD card. He likes it. Only issue I know he's had is that his digital editions (sideloaded books on Nook) went away. No biggie because I have a real Nook he can use. It functions as a tablet. I also remember he complained about a couple of the apps that were pre-loaded that he wished he could delete but didn't know how.

No real complaints though.

I have the Nook Color which I have rooted with a removable SD card, Cyagenmod it's called. It's not really considered rooted - when the SD card is inserted you have an Android tablet, when you pop it out (must be powered off to insert/remove sd card) you have your Nook Color back. I love it, it's the best if both worlds IMO. I did a little googling and got mine from eBay.
