Friend WW1 Thriller getting published - gift idea??

A close friend of mine is publishing his first book. It is a WWI historical fiction thriller (1st of a series). I am trying to think of creative items to give him as a "Congrats on being published" gift. I made a card out of his book cover and have a cross pen for book signings, but haven't come up with other items?

He is retired career military (uk) and I have to mail everything as I don't live close. He doesn't keep a lot of "things" so am trying to be fairly practical.

Any thoughts on Congrats gifts?

Sounds like what you have is perfect, along with a heart felt congratulations. If he doesn't like "stuff" no need to load him up on more stuff.

I agree that I don't want to load him up with stuff either. but I don't feel like those items are very personal to the situation.

The Dawn's Chorus is about a specific regiment so I was thinking of an officer's medal from WWI from that regiment, but wasn't sure if that would be disrespectul etc.

I would like to add at least 1 item that is a personal touch kind of item.

But agreed - need to keep it contained.

My first thought would be bookplates that are personalized with his name on them. They are stickers for when someone emails him telling him they like his book.... he can offer to write one out with a personal message and mail it to the reader. The first thing that popped into my head is a framed art print of his book cover he can hang in his home, with possibly a little plaque added to it with the publication date. Getting a book to publication is a grueling process and he's no doubt proud. This way he can "show off" his achievement without feeling like a braggart, since it would be a gift from a friend.

TipsyTraveler that is an excellent idea to add to the nameplates. He is not a braggart so this would be a great way to still show his accomplishment. Thank you.

It has been quite a process of many years in the making. Having watched the level of research he put into the books is amazing and now see it come into fruition. I am proud of him and know he is very pleased as well.
