A vacuum cleaner from my parents.
I got it last year, worst present ever. Nothing say's "Merry Christmas, your housekeeping skills suck" like a vacuum. My parent's do not give fun stuff for Christmas. It's always something you need, never anything you want. |

My mother in law gave me towels one year because she said she noticed mine were "tattered" when she was at my house. You give towels for a bridal shower!

I actually just bought one of these tonight! My son is in the Navy in Japan and his girlfriend is Japanese and loves Hello Kitty. She also wants to learn more about the US culture so when I found the Hello Kitty Chia Pet, I had to have it for her!
My worst gift was probably back in the 90s when I asked my husband for a Thigh Master. He came home with an Epilady, which ripped the hair out of your legs by the roots. I used it for about 5 minutes and never again. From that time on, I provide a list or I buy my "big gift" myself. He wraps it and he's done.

The worst gift I got was from my then boyfriend (now ex). He decided to go and get his picture taken to give to everyone for Christmas. He decided that I need an 11x14 picture of him. I looked at him and asked him where we wanted me to put the hugh picture. I then told him on top of that why did he not shave before having the picture taken. He said he knew he should have shaved but he did not feel like it. At least the picture frame was nice.

Well, my in laws once gave us a plastic box with fiber optic flowers inside. They changed colors as it played You Light Up My Life. They also gave us this ceramic lighthouse that when turned on, bonged out G-d Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. It also had a clapper function so you didn't have to get up to turn it on.
It's a toss up. |

Someone in my family got one of those as a real gift (it didn't make sound, but it sounds the same otherwise). Oh, but was that thing U-G-L-Y!! It went around the family many times as a gag gift. Once my sister got it, she passed it to Grandma the next year. Grandma had forgotten about it being a gag gift & tried to be nice. Then, when she realized it was a gag, she felt awful for not having anything clever to say about the joke. For weeks afterward, she was trying to come up with new, clever things she "should" have said. She then wrote everyone in the family (individual, hand-written letters for each) apologizing for "ruining Christmas" - same grandma who'd written us all big checks for Christmas. Poor Grandma, I don't think she honestly ruined anything for anyone in all her 90 years. But, she was sure certain she'd ruined Christmas. Love ya (and miss you) Grandma!

Now this isn't a traditional gift giving, at Christmas we have a huge party everyone brings a gift and they are set in the center of the room, then we roll idce and doubles gets you a present, there is a second round where you can steal presents from others.
Anyways we were letting our daughter play, she must have been 6-7 years old. Well its time to open the gifts and she won "Monkey Butt Wipes" with a $2 scratcher lotto ticket. She was appalled by the wipes but the scratcher got her $50 and yes we let her spend it. So it was a win-lose story lol

From Mother-in-Law: A bag of sugar free chocolate covered almonds. Upon my opening them she proclaimed, "They are good! I know because I tried them!"
I supposed that is better than the year that she got me absolutely nothing.

Knee-Hi's!
Every year for my birthday and Christmas my Aunt put 2 pair of knee-hi's in a card and mailed them to me. My mother enjoyed them.
