I have seen lots of Bugaboos, stokkes etc over the years at Disney. There is always a risk. We have had two moderately priced strollers (a Quest and Citimnini) and probably 65+ days in a WDW theme park with no issues.

I would check ebay for a slightly used Mac or City Mini, let alone the price I woudln't want the hassle of the 2 piece getting on and off Disney Transportation.

Germy rental strollers

After seeing all the videos about the dirt and germs in hotel rooms, childrens ball pits etc. I would never put my child in a rental stroller. How can they sterilize all the ecolic germs from feces spitups etc. Yuck.
We always put a baggy on the tv remote after seeing the video of the guy putting the remote between his butt cheeks and we always remove the bedspreads from the beds. A rental stroller would have to be boiled to totally sanitize it.
Buy a cheaper stroller rather than rent one.

We had our cheapo umbrella stroller stolen last summer at MK. I had paid $10 or $20 for the thing, and we had already gotten our money out of it, so I wasn't too torn up about it (my then 3 year old was, though). With it being a cheapo, I figure who ever took it must have been pretty desperate!

That experience would keep me from bringing an expensive stroller.

Not that I would want to have an expensive stroller stolen...but is the point of having such an expensive/nice stroller if you don't use it??

I totally agree. It's like having good china and crystal and never using it because it might break. Just take some necessary precautions. I know my tumi luggage has a GPS chip in it so if it gets lost or stolen it can be tracked. I wonder if there is a stroller alarm? Stop thief this is not your stroller. LOL. There are thieves everywhere.

While I have never had a stroller stolen, I have also heard about high end ones being stolen. Even if that wasn't a factor I would think twice about a Bugaboo. Unless you are staying at one of the hotels on the monorail, and plan to go nowhere but Magic kingdom, Epcot and the 3 hotels on the monorail you will have to fold and unfold it. It's a PIA enough with an easy to fold stroller, but the Bugaboo will cause you and your traveling companions a headache with taking it apart and then breaking it down, plus then keeping track of your baby plus all the other stuff you might have.

Rent or see if you can get a good deal on a citi mini-so easy to fold, great recline, great storage.

Thats a good point and I guess I will never know. But, it was in the stroller parking area and we saw a CM moving strollers around. It was dark and I really don't think the CM saw the lock and moved it. I was upset (not with the CM just that it happened) but it ended up being a good thing as the rest of the trip was much easier with out it. We are going back next week and won't be using a lock.

Sorry the web link went before I had a chance to explain the link. This is a link to a Disney employees blog about " the stroller police" I found it to be a real hoot. There is also a story about how to protect your stroller at Disney. If you personalize it with your name( iron on transfer or have it embroidered it is less likely to be stolen. Add a large balloon or some people even put rope lights on it. Wet a diaper with apple juice and hang it in a bag on your stroller etc.

It is a funny one, but just so one thinks it works, it's been around for more than 20 years, even though many people are hearing about it for the first time now.
Since its well known and there are bathrooms and trash containers all over, anyone really intent on taking a stroller will just throw it away.
Just mentioning because most of the time it gets posted, someone thinks its a great idea and plans to use it next trip.

I've seen strollers with bike locks through the wheels. If you're going to lock the stroller, put the stroller in the stroller parking area so the CMs don't need to move it. Of course, the CMs still come by and consolidate the stroller area as people pick up their strollers (and move strollers to different rows in doing so.)

I saw a CM come over to a stroller that had a bike lock on it and the CM wanted to move it stroller parking. I don't recall if they just lifted the front wheels and proceeded to move it or if they just moved off to the side.

We keep Combi Urban single strollers for trips to WDW and other parks. They weigh 10 lbs, trifold compactly in 2 seconds, and are very manageable when using the buses or monorail.

If I spent $1000 on a stroller, it would not have been to leave it at home. I would be more worried about gate checking it (damage) on a plane vs. stolen. I would bring it and bring a lock for the back wheels.
