Yes. I bought one last week for same price. Just know that it is the smallest storage size-8 gb, and isn't hd.

Best buy had them for $159.00plus you get a $30.00 best buy gift card with it. Not sure if they still have that deal.

$129 is the best price I've seen yet. I just bought one a few minutes ago on Amazon for that price. I highly doubt it can be found any cheaper than that.

I notice that it does not have the free connectivity like the traditional/original Kindle does. How does one buy books or download anything from Amazon? From just wifi? Is it inconvenient? Also, does the screen size seem comfortable. One of my friends has the larger traditional Kindle and the screen size seems big although the unit seems large for transporting. Opinions?

My Kindle only has wi-fi only I have had never an issue downloading stuff on to it. If you are the type of person that is always in need of a connection while out and about it may be a problem for you, but otherwise its not really an issue.

This would only be a problem if you were somewhere without WiFi. That's all I have ever had an it's been super easy and fast.

I just ordered one as well and thought I would point out that the wall charger (which is not included) is on sale for 9.99 today if you purchase the kindle fire.

For those wanting to know...I have a Kindle Fire. My DH bought it for me and when I got it, I thought "why this?" and now I would not give it up!! I love to read books and to play games on it and even access WIFI!
129.00 is an awesome price and you will be very happy with it!!

For those that don't know, this Kindle also had ads on the pages, or as Amazon puts it "special offers".

Just FYI.

Does anyone have a feel for how obnoxious the ads are?

I am considering this for my 71 yo Mom
How is the visibility -is there a different model that has a clearer screen or all they all the same visibility wise.
She will only be using it for books probably

I just googled and found that the ads are on the lock screen and lower corner of home screen. Sounds like NBD to me.

Just bought one for our 11-yo daughter this morning...we had planned on getting her the cheapest Fire anyway so $30 savings is huge to me! I researched the ads and they are mainly special offers from amazon like "$1 kindle books" and whatnot. And they apparently don't interrupt your reading so for the savings she can live with it. She won't be using this for a lot of movies and TV so the 8g size and non-HD should be fine.

I have a Nexus 7 tablet from Google, and I love it. That said, I'd recommend the Nexus tablet over a Kindle Fire if you are familiar with the Android ecosystem because Google pushes out their latest updates to software on "nexus" devices first. This will help your tablet run faster and smoother. The lowest price for a Nexus 7 is $199, however it comes with 16 gigs of storage (double of kindle fire hd).
