Dental bonding anyone? ever filled a gap between 2 teeth?
Okay,
i am sick and tired of looking like a witch. I have space between my 2 front teeth and everything I smile the first thing everyone notices is the space in between. So today, when I skyped my son in college, he said mom you have got to cover the gap. So here is my question, has anyone gone to the dentist to feel a gap between two teeth and is it called Bonding? or something else How much did they charge you so I know what kind of a figure amount i should expect. I do not want any other dental work done since money is really tight but have got to fill the gap right in the front of all places. I hardly smile and when i talk I talk like the guy who does ventriliquism where i hardly open my mouth anymore ![]() ![]()

I had bonding done between my 2 front teeth and also my next 2 teeth on either side as well. This was about 15 years ago, IIRC??? Anyway, it has lasted fine since then, still no problems. I only paid about $300. Worth every penny!

About 15 years ago I had a tooth that was recessed bonded to be thicker so it would be even across the front of my teeth. It would be the same process. They'd just bond the side of yours.
In the last couple of years, my teeth started crowding and the tooth recessed even more and the other side started to match it. It really bummed me out as the bonding also yellowed. I looked like a country hick with one recessed yellow tooth. Last month, I had the tooth redone along with the other recessed tooth. I went to a cosmetic dentist who specializes in the esthetics & repairing the look of teeth, as I wanted a really great, natural looking job done. I had laminates put on this time instead of the bonding. It's more permanent, won't yellow over time as the bonding did, and is made out of porcelain, so the surface matches real teeth better. Of course it's about a third more in price. But, I will never have to have them redone again. Bonding for one tooth would be about $1200. (My normal dentist quoted that and she wasn't even a cosmetic dentist.) The laminate was $1750 per tooth. But, that and getting my teeth whitened were some of the best money I ever spent. I would do it all over again to have my teeth looking so great.

I had spaces between my front teeth and also a chip on the surface of one and had the front 4 bonded about 15 years ago. Best thing I ever did! I have had to get repairs done occasionally but it has held up well. The color has not changed, my dentist matched the color really well. I'm careful not to bite into things like apples. I got it done by my regular dentist, he sends it into insurance and I just pay the copay.

Yes...I had braces because my teeth slanted inward. When they straightened out there were small gaps between my top few front teeth. I believe the bonding was about $200 per space. My dentist said it should last 4 years so I just got them re-done last summer and the "touch up" bonding was about $150 each but only 2 of them needed to be touched up.
How long have you had the gap? My mom has a gap on the side and finally went to get it filled in. She ended up going back and having them take it off because she said she didn't look like herself!! My dentist now takes your picture and can go on the computer and show you what you'd look like with certain things done. Maybe you could try that at a consultation first? I'm sure they could also give you a better idea about price. Good luck!

I would love to have the bonding between my front 2 teeth and the bleaching. I need to check this out. What do you just call a cosmetic dentist?

One of my friends in high school had a gap filled in. She didn't go to a cosmetic dentist and it was around $800. This was back in 2001 so I'm sure the price has gone up. I think some people look ok with gaps. It's just depends on how wide the gap is. My has a small gap and she looks. My friend who had her gap filled in sort of needed it. It was kind of wide and she trouble speaking.

I didn't think my current, regular dentist could really do a great job, since fillings are just adequate. Since she was going to charge me $1200 per tooth anyway, I figured I wanted them to look great. The esthetic/cosmetic dentist I went to really spent a lot of time on my teeth, shaping them to get the angle, curve and shape right. He even had a color specialist come in to exactly match my other teeth. They had to create a special shade and take pictures to try to match my teeth color. Then the dentist had to grind off the old bonding, then put on temporary bonding to make a mold of my teeth for the laminates. So even the temporary bonding looked fabulous. If I had just gotten bonding he would have stopped there. But a week later, I went in. He ground off all his hard work then put the laminates on. ![]() A week before all this, I went to a Brite Smile center to get my teeth whitened first. That procedure only takes an hour. If you go to their website, there is a coupon. I think the normal price is $500. The coupon knocks it down to $399. My regular dentist wanted to charge me $500. I didn't want to pay the cosmetic dentist for that same procedure and have him charge more when I could have it done anywhere. If you are just filling in a gap, you probably don't need a cosmetic dentist. I had the whole fronts done on my two teeth next to the center ones done. Since so much showed, I wanted them to look right. |

My daughter had tis done over the summer and somehow with our dental insurance I didn't have to pay much of anything for it. It was well worth it because she feels so much better about her smile. ( she has small teeth)
The reason we went with the bonding is because my mother had it done almost 20 years ago and she has never had a problem. From the different rates that have been quoted here on this thread, I would make sure I got a few quotes. They shouldn't charge that much for that. |
