telescope recommendations?

I'm considering getting a telescope for my family for christmas. I don't have a ton to spend, would like to keep it below $150 tops, so hoping I can find a higher model on sale for that or below. I'm wading thru reviews on amazon and feeling overwhelmed. any recommendations?

My recommendation for a family first scope would actually be an Astroscan but that's about $100 more than you want to spend.

the basic one will do you just fine! It runs about $250 but they are made to last - they can be bumped around a bit without worry that anything will be knocked out of alignment.

You can pick up additional eyepieces (for different magnification) later pretty cheaply from ebay or amazon --- I forget which brand fits.

There's a celestron on sale at deals.woot.com today for $150. It's the same one I have.

I love it. It's not the best telescope in the world, but it works and I can see Jupiter's moons with it. It is heavy though.
