DC - Prescription Water Mask

It's my understanding that DC has prescription water masks available, 1st come, 1st served.

Do you need to bring a written prescription with you or do they read it off of your glasses?

Has anyone done this? If so, please tell me all about it.

I pulled the trigger and bought DC ticket today. I'm pumped!

Hi there, I just called my optometrist, and they told me a minus 3 would work, so at the guest relations desk I told them that at DC and they found me one that was close to a minus 3!

Yay that you bought tickets!! You are going to love it! We brought our prescriptions in but it doesn't matter. They can just figure out what you need and you can try it. They come in -1, -1.5 etc I got a -1 and it worked well for me. My husband got a -4.5 which was good although not quite strong enough but way better than non prescripton. If you have your prescription written out bring it (they only need that first number) or it should be easy enough to figure out.

Would the mask fit over glasses? (You can tell I have no experience with these.)

I don't think glasses would really work under the masks. The prescription masks are a great thing. You can put your glasses somewhere safe with your towel when you are in the water either that or keep them in your locker and wear them when out. If you aren't snorkeling then you can wear glasses in the water. I wore my glasses during the dolphin swim.

I read that they were first-come-first-served, do you think you'd have to be one of the first ones in the door to be able to get them? And do you get to keep them all day or dya have to hand them back when you're done snorkelling and such? I really really want to do Discovery Cove on our next trip, but one of the things I'm looking forward to most is the snorkelling, and without the prescription masks doing that would be pointless as I'm blind as a bat without my glasses (and I'm only 26!). Getting a prescription mask would be the difference between an excellent trip and a ruined one. I wish there was a way to reserve them ahead of time.

AuroraRora, That's my thinking for my hubby. His eyesight is awful. I'm ok without a prescription mask. Guess we will try to get there bright and early.

We did get there first thing but I think there are lots of them so I doubt you have to really worry about it. Yes, you get it for the full day. We returned them when we left. You have to sign for them and return them where you got them. If you are worried phone and ask them about numbers. Those prescription masks are one more thing that makes Discovery Cove the great place it is.
