upgrading within your category question..

did a search but could not find the answer to my question....I booked the cabin that was inside stateroom, and you are assigned a room at a later date. this was the non refundable, no changes etc etc.
We were assigned to room 7023. Never being on a cruise before, I have no issues with the room, but my girls were disappointed they wanted bunk beds
I did not have plans to upgrade, but i wondered if I could upgrade to another inside stateroom with bunk beds? Would the cast members know what rooms have this configuration and are you able to upgrade within your same class?
Also, I've read here in the boards that it is helpful to go prepared with what the going rate is for the room you want to upgrade to. How would i find this information out?

I guess I don't understand. You booked an IGT rate and you got an inside room. How many people? Which ship? Why do you think this room doesn't have a bunk?

yes you can upgrade at port. i would assume upgrade means just that, so probably there is some increase in cost? especially if you did the IGT category, which, of course, specifies you don’t pick the room. the cms at port can tell you
how many or where the room sleeps. also, you can look up the category of your room with DCL and that should help you understand the layout? again, the ship is important to know in looking up info. try the DCL website and/or google!

That's what I was thinking....or that she didn't understand that the top bunk comes out of the ceiling if she has seen a photo....since she was referring to "bunk beds" and they don't look anything like at home bunk beds.

If we knew which ship, we could look up the room and determine the layout.

I've just learned to not believe the shoreside CMs--we asked once if the room had the bunk as DD liked it even though we didn't need it. Shoreside said no, and at the terminal I asked if we could move to a room with a bunk--turns out that our assigned room had one already. The chart at the terminal was correct.

I'm sorry I forgot to give some pertinent information!
Yes we are travelling with three people, on the Fantasy, so I am assuming that this is a 3 person room. I looked on wdwinfo.com for reviews on the stateroom, and someone is saying that the room does not have the pull down bunk beds, or berths. I have not checked the actual cruise line website yet.

Just realized I was looking at a review of the magic! So indeed, I do not know if this has the pull down berths, I will have to do some research now!

You should call DCL otherwise you will be sharing a queen with one of the girls.

The sofa becomes a small bed and the queen does not(?) separate into 2 beds.

If you change rooms to a 4 person then a bunk drops out of the ceiling.

Just so you know the search function is terrible. Just use google to search the disboards and save yourself some frustration. Also to check the rate you can just use the disney website to get an estimate. You know the price you paid for an IGT and the just subtract that from the category you want to go to. Also keep in kind that since you booked an IGT when you want to do a port upgrade it is an upgrade from the category you paid for and not what you were assigned, so the lowest inside category is likely where you will start from. Some people have gotten lucky booked a *GT rate and then got an upgrade from the room that they were assigned which may have been much higher. You see when you are at port and you want to upgrade the Cast Member just looks at a simple chart and gives you a room price based on your category and where you want to go, the price is per room and not per person which is nice.

Also if you want to do this, get to the port early. Since you are an inside then you technically have more chance to upgrade as your category can only go up.

One of the reviews of the same stateroom on the Dream does indicate there is a pull-down berth. Your best option would probably be to call DCL and ask for clarification. It never hurts to call and ask!

The other request (which should not cost) is to ask whether this cabin does or does not have the bunk (pull down berth) and if not, whether you can be moved to one that does. If they do this for you, there should be no additional charge.

It is also possible to have a room change at the terminal for this reason at no charge. Done it. The kicker in your case is the IGT booking--they are not obligated to move you at all.
