That's funny - when I was out running I saw tons of people in bulldog gear and we all exchanged "go dawgs!"! It was a great game; clearly evenly matched. Congrats! I'll be a Tide fan for sure when they play ND! And, yes, Atl is hilly. This is why the Publix Half in March last year kicked my butt. Planning to be more prepared this year and exact my revenge for a PR!

In other news: I think I have posterior shin splints. I haven't run since Wednesday. I got fitted for inserts for my shoes, and I've been icing like crazy. My training plan starts this week with 3/3/4. Last week I did 2/2/2. The week before was 2/3/5k. Then, my last run before that was in October. FU skin cancer. Surgery made me take almost 3.5 weeks off, hence the long gap in running. I'm totally scared my pain won't go away. And either way, I am not ready for 4 miles!
Hang in there, girl! I feel you; my shins are my weak spot. Sounds like you are doing what you are supposed to. You might really surprise yourself with what you can do! Slow and steady; get the miles in and the speed will come. Good luck, Princess!

On the subject of compression:

I did a 10.5 mile run yesterday. I first dressed with my uber compression shorts (CWX brand) and then a sparkle tech over it. Went outside- felt too hot with 2 layers of compression shorts, so decided to take off the CWX. Walking around I immediately noticed my ITB- it just didn't feel as good or as supported as it did with the better compression shorts. I decided then and there that if I was going for 10, I needed the support.

Put them back on, changed my skirt to something without shorts underneath, and ran.

Leg felt GREAT! Both legs actually. (my feet were another story--- ugh!)

Anyway... just wanted to put it out there for anyone with ITB issues that maybe some compression shorts or tights would help you out. I never felt my hip or knee or anywhere along my leg pull or tighten the entire long @ss run... and I run slooowwww... so it was really long. LOL

I bought mine last year on sale, so they weren't too costly. They go down just above my knee and really seemed to help me. Today I am mildly sore in certain places, but nothing like I think I would have been if I didn't compress!

And I also wore the sleeves during the run, and then put my compression socks on for recovery last night. No calf pain this morning at all. And usually I'm feeling those babies.

Compress ladies! Compress!

Okay, I've got a 20% off coupon for RRSports - think ill at least try some compression capris and see if I can make them work.

Did 4 miles yesterday - pain free!!! First time accomplishing that since July. I forgot to wear a knee brace, though, and can feel the pesky meniscus stuff acting up. No ITBS related pain though!

Also... ROLL TIDE! (Sorry Amy - I'm a Gators girl, so... you know. )

Since our football program has become such a mess, I just don't even care about college football anymore. I will never be a fan of FL, AL, or KY though. It's in my DNA or something. My new SIL went to KY. When they got married in Aug, they handed out Ky blue pompoms instead of bubbles or birdseed for when they were leaving. We ran & got the orange and white pompoms out of the car instead.

Ladies, I thought I'd share the way I came up with to display this year's race bling. As my collection grows, I may devote an entire tree to this next year. Lol

7 mile run is in the books. It certainly wasn't pretty but it's over. I'm disappointed as my pace slowed down drastically. We decided to stay closer to home which means hills. I run hills 2x a week with no issues. Today during mile 2 I started feeling pain in my hips as when ran up a fairly long hill. I was the fine going downhill and on the flat areas for awhile By mile 5 the pain was constant and the outsides of my big toes started to feel raw. I guess I changed my stride/step to compensate for the hip pain. I finished under 11min/mile. My last half mile felt ok in the hips but my toes were killing me. I've never had that before.

Marathon of the Palm Beaches half is done!! Wasn't as fast as my last half, but I would still have plenty of time for pictures if it were the Princess. Now I am switching to the Higdon Intermediate Plan to try to bring my time down a little. I decided to be a crazy person and do A1A the week before the Princess in order to get into Half Fanatics..we'll see how that goes!

Please add me to the list, as well! I'm training here in Durham, NC by myself. I have done training w/ Team In Training in the past, but this is the 1st time I've done it myself. Must say it's a totally different experience in my late 50's than it was in my early 40's!! Can't wait, though!!

A question for those with sports watches. My DD is trying to decide between a Garmin or Nike. Any opinions?

I use duct tape over the toe area of my shoes. Works GREAT!!
