Well I finished my first half marathon in 3:14:03 which I am very happy with since it is my first race. My buddy just rounded mile 12 on the marathon course and all I can think about is running another race now. It is a great feeling (even the soreness today) Thanks for posting your success stories as it gives newbies like myself the hope we need to push forward.

Now if only I can get back home... Stuck on the tarmac at a different airport because our flight was diverted!

Woke up today thinking about the marathoners. Hope they're all having a good run. Can't wait to hear about the experience and what Disney did at Mile 20 to celebrate.

Thinking of all the marathoners today!! I woke up at 3am when I heard the monorail start running!
I finished the half yesterday and could not believe it - my first race ever!! I ran pretty well - 2:26 and I had wanted to make it by 2:30 so that is good for me! It was really crowded the first 3 miles I thought - I was in corral E. I didn't want to expend too much energy darting through so I jut ran with the crowd which was slower than I wanted o run.
Funny the post above mentioning the distance! My runtastic app said it was 13.5 as well! I thought maybe it was a fluke as I started it slightly before I crossed the start and slightly after I crossed the finish.

Good luck to the marathoners!! Hope you all finish strong!!

Add me to the Runkeeper mystery...mine said 13.65 miles but the time listed matched Disney's exactly. Did I do that much bobbing and weaving within the crowds?

Done with the marathon! It was hot and honestly awful, but I have been dealing with ITBS and it flared up pretty badly around mile 15-16 and soon, I could only run 0.5 miles at a time. Anyway, finished in 4:33 which is at least 30 min off what I wanted but its done! The mile 20 thing was quite lame...some big character balloons and Minnie/Mickey!

For everyone wondering about the distance, if it's more on your own GPS, it just means you weren’t cutting corners— literally.

For a USATF-certified course the distance is defined by the shortest possible route a runner could take without being disqualified.

For most races, a certified measurer rides the course on a bike, staying near the curb and taking every available tangent. This ensures that all runners will run at least the declared race distance and very few will actually run just the exact race distance because most people won't take the angles and hug the curb the whole time and people have to take extra steps around others participants, hit a water stop or stay to the middle or outside lane.

Exactly. You will never run exactly 26.2 because its virtually impossible to hit all the tangents and straight lines that are used when measuring the course. Coming in at 26.2-something would be very impressive. Most people are 26.3 or 26.4 or more.

Hello everyone!

I've never posted here, but flying over from Germany for this marathon, I came across this wonderful forum during my prep. I just finished the marathon... Not the greatest time (thank you humidity), but had a lot of fun. Although an experienced marathon runner (this was number six), I would never have made it without the helpful hints about Disney marathons and Florida running that I got from you all.

Thank you all!

Congratulations. Thanks for sharing. I hope to cross the full marathon off my bucket list next year.

Hey Wishers!

Finished the Hottest. Marathon. Ever. (for me at least......). Was hoping to hit 4:30, but knew, due to my really extreme lack of LR's that was probably a pipe dream. Yeah...................... it was. This WAS my first run longer than 1/2 M length since Goofy 2010. Slacker I am. Finished in 4:57, which I am actually really pleased with, I had a SEVERE bout of GI upset around mile 24ish whisch really slowed me down for a bit and my feet were just painful as hell for the second half. I stuck with the 4:30 pace group for the first half and then they slowly faded off into the distance (not unexpectedly.....).

Jules- sorry about getting yanked. That really sucks. I had a nice bout of dizziness lasting a few minutes between DHS and the Yacht/Beach Club. I did a quick pulse and HR check on myself (passed with flying colors) and walked for 5 minutes hold onto a railing the entire time before heading off again. You'll have better days!! Promise!

And I agree, mile 20 was really "What's the BFD?" for me too. But the balloon was cool!

Now. Off to catch a few Z's before dinner at Sci-Fi tonight!

Ditto!

I didn't think that WWoS loop was going to ever end. It was a big letdown.
