Any other suggestions? Does anyone use cooling towels or something else? Any advice would be appreciated.
There was a piece in Florida Running & Triathlon by Keith Brantly former Olympic marathon team member and he gives a little piece of advice. In the section he talks about watching the weather and if the start temp is >60 consider changing you race stragety. Mr. Brantly gives a combined number , greater than 130, for the heat and humdity that makes it less likely that one may run fast. His example is a temp of 55 and humidity of 80% to get 135 which would be high enough that you may need to adjust your race and hydration strategy.

So taking this into account...

#1) Slow up. For each 10F above 135 on the scale above, take 30 seconds or so off pace. Do this through the first half of the race and evaluate how you feel. You can always speed up if feeling like you have a handle on the heat, but cannot slow up once you realize you may have an issue
You have noted the other things… I would add sunglasses, though the sun may not be bright enough by the time you finish... it will help with squinting in the section from mile 10-11.

I think I stated earlier the risk was less than 10%... it is maybe 15% now.

The issue is that the intersection of Bonnet and Vacation Way is also a kiss and drop location for many locals. So if no one reads the program, then there will be a crowd of unhappy runners. The more there are, the less likely a complete turn back will occur.

I have two half runners that I want to experience the staging area so we will be heading to the staging area on Saturday. I will make a special effort to look at the crossing Saturday and see if there are folks crossing. I will report here is there is an issue.

In the mean time, folks from both resorts can meet up on vacation way since the short cuts I have noted meet at an informal intersection. There is a Lynx bus stop at this intersection so there is a little room off road for a meet up.

I am undecided on whether I am walking on Sunday.

Ok Thanks Coach! I am up for walking over then.

So all Riverside people that would like to walk and are doing the Half on Saturday does everyone want to all meet outside the main lobby entrance at 4:15am Saturday?? I could make a sign for Donald's Defiant Dasher group.
I believe it is less than one mile to the corrals.

Runner Tracker

Does anyone know if the link is available yet to track our Half and Full Marathons? I had it for TOT but I forgot to bookmark the site.

Thank you,
Colleen

So I just started reading the last page of this thread, and am seeing posts from people stating that they will be walking to their start corrals rather than using the buses.

Is this an option for people staying at the Boardwalk? Just wondering. We will be doing the full.

Thanks!

Not much. Was planning to do 3.5 today but since I seem to have a milder version of my kids' stomach bug, I will rest. May run it tomorrow depending on how I feel.

Weekend: 7
Tuesday: 3.5
Thursday: 3.5

Following Galloway's plan.

Okay, I know I've asked some stupid questions as a running newbie, but here comes the stupidest one. What would one put in bag check? I wasn't planning on using it because I couldn't think of anything I would need after the race. Of course, I've only got two 5K's under my belt, so maybe I am missing something major. Thanks!

I checked this morning - not there yet. Hopefully they will have it up by the end of this week/early next week.

I don't think so...you'd essentially be walking from the back to the front of the park. The Epcot resorts (Beach/Yacht, Swan/Dolphin and Boardwalk) all share buses. I took a bus last year from BCV and it was fine.

Training left:

Today - 4 miles
Saturday - 8 miles
Tuesday - 3 miles
Wednesday - 2 miles

I am doing Higdon's Novice 2 plan - he calls for another 2 miles the day before the marathon, but I will be in the parks so will just say that is 2 miles. :P

Now I am kind of thinking of getting on the bus to be on the safe side.
I am in corral F so no need to rush for a 5:30 am start. But I would get on the bus by 3:45am
I'd love for you to walk with us Colleen, but I definitely think if you or anyone else is uncertain about walking that you should take the bus. You don't need unnecessary stress on race day.

Whoops, just saw your last post. Looks like you're thinking of walking at this point.
