Great news! (coming from someone who also sprained her ankle in Oct.)

That is awesome news! Congrats on no surgery!

STAGING AREA

There should be a character or two doing meet-ups near the DJ stage in the staging area before the races.

HALF (note that this is based off of what I remember from the Princess Half, which is the same course as the WDW Half):

Expect a character(s) just after Mile Marker (MM) 1 on the left.
Except a character(s) just after MM2 on the left.
*Cross under MK entrance gates, pass MM3*
Another character after MM3
Enter MK, take a right into Tomorrowland. Should be a character out in Tomorrowland (Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, Chip and Dale or Pluto in space gear, etc.)
Go into Fantasyland - should be Alice in Wonderland characters out in front of the Mad Tea Party
Should be characters in front of the castle (Cinderella characters?)
Princess and the Frog characters in Liberty Square
Should be characters in Frontierland (Woody or Jessie, etc.)
Characters backstage as you exit the Magic Kingdom with parade floats
More characters in between MM7 and MM8, including characters in golf gear on the golf course
Once you get to MM9 you're heading back toward Epcot, so you'll pass the characters you saw in the first couple of miles, this time on your right
Sarge after MM10
Character after MM11
Character after MM12
*Into Epcot*
Should be a couple of characters in Epcot
Should be a couple of characters at the finish line

FULL (based off of what I saw in the 2012 WDW Full):

I think the portion above through the Magic Kingdom will be similar since the courses are the same through that point...so a few characters in the beginning with LOTS in the Magic Kingdom and characters at the golf course.
Not sure who will be in or around the WDW Speedway...Cars characters? No one?
Another meet on the backroads as you head to Animal Kingdom.
Characters backstage as you enter the Animal Kingdom
Jammin Jungle Minnie and Mickey after you exit Animal Kingdom
Not sure what to expect in WWoS, but this is where the mile 20 surprise is...and I am expecting/hoping for lots of rare characters.
Some characters backstage as you enter Hollywood Studios and a character before you leave the studios.
Characters around World Showcase (normal ones that are out everyday - Aurora and Marie in France, Mulan in China, etc.)
A character or two at the finish

...

Perhaps it was unnecessary for me to type all that out and just say that the characters are spread out through the course...but there you go!

Obviously you can see that there are a LOT in Magic Kingdom, so if the meet-ups are important to you (obviously they are to me) plan on that being one of your longest miles of the race.
Thank you so much! This is extremely helpful. I don't have a ton of margin for error on times, so having a rough idea of what to expect allows me to budget time appropriately. Huzzah!!!

Question on photos. I know brightroom offers a package (well, that is what I gathered from what you guys talk about on here!). Is this something I purchase at the expo? Online after the race? Thanks!

I usually wait until after the race. I think I have seen a small discount prerace or during the expo in the past. I wait so I know what I am purchasing. I usually find 2-5 photos in the orphan stack or from another runner's que.

Good, glad to know my character craziness is helping someone.

I bought mine afterward...I think it was $100 for the marathon package. It also included 3 videos!

Good call. I ran with my brother last year and was in some of his photos, but they weren't in my bin so I had a few back-and-forths with brightroom over email to get them added to my account before purchasing. I was too lazy to look in the lost-and-found.

Here is a video I made after my first Ironman in 2010. Most of the first half is pics of my family and friends in the days leading up to the race. The couple of days before the race are spent tweaking the last details of your race plan, trying to stay relaxed and alot of hanging out.

Anyway, anyone looking to waste some time....enjoy.

OKW Marathon peeps, what time are you walking over to the start line? Or are you taking the bus? I'm all about the extra sleep but I don't know my way around OKW area enough to walk by myself.

They are saying all bags need to be turned into bag check by 4:30 am, and you must board the bus or monorail no later than 4 am.

Now, there is a grace period, but I will plan on being down at the bus stop from the Boardwalk Resort at 4 am. I don't plan on hanging around in the family reunion area for any reason so as soon as I get off the bus I will turn in my gear bag and walk to the starting corral. I'll probably be there by 4:50 or so.

I am a worry wort and am up before my 2:30 alarm anyway so I am usually on one of the first buses at around 3:15. I mosey over to the corrals around 4:30 after numerous potty breaks. I am also in corral A so I can't miss the first round of fireworks!!

This map is from the main intersection near the Hospitality House. The key is to head down Millar Rd to the Cast Member parking lot - it's across from Building 17.

Stay Safe and walk on the very edge of Vacation Way.

Note the 'new' language in the instructions focussing on folks walking ot the start. I think they are trying to cut the numbers down. But since they publish language against it, they have ground to turn folks back. Head down and watch the start of tthe half. See if folks are being allowed to pass the bridge over the canal. If not, then bus. I have two half runners and one full runner I am helping out this year. I need to be with these guys in the staging area, so I think I am driving over.

Actually, you are correct and with the wave starts, I am not sure an H person really needs to hustle to the starting corrals... other than the herd mentality. But I am escorting my H runner to her corral so I guess she will be in the pen for an hour.

Oh, and I am a 0200 waker, or earlier... I have never been asleep when the alrm(s) went off.

I am! I am also deathly afraid of my daughter getting sick! I am not letting her go to "little church" on Sunday and she is coming to Sunday School with us. Is it bad that I was relieved the sick kid at Story Time today left before the kids all played Farmer in the Dell?

Oh, and thank you all for the input on run/walk race etiquette. We are in Corral D and have been averaging a 12 minute mile for our first couple miles on our last training runs, increasing a few seconds each mile, so I think pace-wise we should be okay there. We will try to position ourselves on the outer edges and I guess let those around us know we're doing Galloway before the start.

YES!!!!

Jan 2011 - The day before we were to leave for Disney for the 2011 Half I got the stomach flu. It was gone the next day when we flew but I was so wiped out feeling. I couldn't even enjoy free dining. lol I managed to finish the half though.

May 2011 - Frederick Half Marathon - no illnesses

October 2011 - The day before the 2011 Baltimore Half I came down with my first ever case of Strep Throat. (I have NEVER been so miserable in my LIFE!) I didn't even start the race.

October 2012 - Baltimore Half Marathon - no illnesses (and probably the best I've ever felt during and after a race. )

So based upon my track record I'm apparently due for an illness! lol

I think I need to put myself in a bubble for the next 11 days!
