Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
Anybody done the Spirit of Aloha dinner show at all? As we are staying at the Poly, it seemed obvious to take in this dinner show, but I have read some very variable reviews of this show. Will it be worth spending 2 TS credits for it, or am I better off using my credits for 2 normal meals instead?
We are definitely going to do the Hoop de Doo Review, so will have at least one dinner show lined up already. It will be myself, DW and 9 year old DS.

Also interested to hear what people say about this, as have also read very mixed reviews!
We've planned to do this next April - we all did Hoop Dee Doo last year, and so thought we'd try a different thing next year! Not so bothered about the food; looking forward to the show more than anything!! |

We LOVE this show. We've done it three times within the past 5 years and we've enjoyed it every single time. The food is delicious, the show is fun, and the service had been excellent. Plus, having unlimited wine/beer & a tip included is nice touch. I highly suggest that you check it out!
ETA: Last month, our ADR was made a little late & we literally had the last seat (almost against the wall). Considering that, our view still wasn't bad & we were able to see everything. Have a great trip!!!

We once booked it but had a look at the venue and didn't like the look of it, it was partly open, as we were planning to go in August we only do indoor/airconned dining, looked as though it could be too warm in the height of summer. We once did the Backyard BBQ and boiled.
Done Hoop 5 times and would choose that again, love it, not bothered about the other 2.

We did it November 1st.
I have started my dining reviews on the restaurant reviews board on the DIS - should do that one with pics within the next week or so (trying to do one a day) We are glad we tried it and had fun. DD who is almost 7 liked it alot and has talked about it alot since. It is very retro 70's style. The food was poor - we had the new trial menu - potato salad, pork loin and chicken. DD had 2 hot dogs. Dessert was a choc nut mousse pyramid and DD got some choc marshmallows. The show is very cheesy at the beginning. Think kids tv show type thing - they sang and danced to hawaiin rollercoaster. DD enjoyed this. Then the dancers did different styles of traditional dancing - me and DD liked this. Finale was a fireater who was very good. They also got birthdays, kids and anniversaries up to dance. DH had beer - they weren't too generous with drinks, I had 4 very small glasses of rose (think spar £3.99 a bottle stuff) Photo package was inc in photopass + It is openair. We did 8pm on 1st Novemeber so were fine but I wouldn't fancy 5pm in summer.

we did the 8pm show October 26th
almost the same experience as Dixonsontour above food was ok but below what could be expected from a 2TS. We paid OOP and don't do alcohol, so using DDP credits would not be worth it for us. we had cat 1 seats but they tried to seat us in a cat 2 almost behind a pole. I had to argue for a few minutes to get the correct assignment. No choice for dessert. A bit disappointing the show is nice. A bit cheesy. DS (almost 5) was fighting against sleep as he wanted to see the firedance. I think that if we hadn't told him about this last number, he'd probably have fallen asleep before the end. The firedance is impressive. Still you get to see almost the same kind of tricks in the festival of the lionking at Animal Kingdom We're glad we did this show, overall it was a great experience. Not sure if we'll ever do it again, but I think it's worth doing once

We've done the Spirit of Aloha show twice and to be honest, our family are quite split on it. My wife and daughter like it, personally, I don't think it's particularly great but I tend to compare what you get for the credits, whereas my wife and daughter just judge it on it's own merits!
If you use the DP, you get Cat 2 seats (at best) and they're not particularly well placed to see the stage. The show is incredibly cheesy and in my view not really worth watching but kids will like it. The food is OK, the bread is excellent, but it's a very typical, all you can eat, platter style food and fine dining it certainly isn't! For me, I'd use the 2 credits for a signature dining experience over the dinner show. I'd much rather eat at the Yachtsman Steakhouse or Artist Pointe than at Spirit of Aloha. In fairness, it's not BAD, but it's not great and I definitely think it's smarter to use your credits elsewhere. If I did it again (under duress because my wife and daughter want to! ) I'd probably pay OOP and get decent seats in Cat 1 so you can have an unrestricted view of the stage because after all, it's a show and you probably want to see!

Not done Aloha but done Hoop 5 times, would do a 6th visit any day rather than a Signature, done Cali Grill & Yachtsman but no interest in going to another, Hoop food is exactly what I enjoy, unlimited ribs & chicken plus beer & tips included, great deal compared to a signature. Others hate Hoop and love Signatures, thankfully plenty of choice for us all.

I've decided to give Aloha a miss. We love buffet meals, so we are going to be loading up a bit on those for our trip.
I think I have settled on: Hoop de Doo Biergarten Crystal Palace O'Hanas 1900 Park Fare Cape May Cafe T Rex 50's Prime Time Boma The last one is coming down to a choice between Coral Reef and Chef Mickey. I would prefer Coral Reef but the wife prefers the idea of a buffet at Chef Mickey. I think I might just book Coral Reef and tell her CM was booked up!

Look at the menus and type of food, see if that helps. I would do CM instead of either Biergarten or 1900 Park, didn't like either of those. Not a buffet fan but I think CM's is the best of them all.

I will say for anyone that is still wavering about the show it has been one of the things my 6yr old has talked about most since coming home - we have to have the rollercoater song on repeat in the car on the way to school.
We were cat 2 seating booked 6 months out. We were at the back on a raised bit - worked better for us as we got our own table.

We all thought that Spirit of Aloha was quite good. Though in comparison thought that Hoop De Do was a major disappointment.
