Thanks Peachy for the clarification. I wouldn't be surprised if they are also trying to limit transaction costs by crediting to their "own" cards rather than paying one of the cc companies.

Also, I can buy Disney gc at Target using my Red Card and save 5%. So, for every $1000 I buy in cards, I save $50. I used gcs almost exclusively to pay off my last cruise, which was crazy when I got $2100 refunded due to switching to the Florida Resident rate. Thankfully, I had numbered all of the cards and tracked them using the "Disney Gift Card" app on my iPhone. I can check all the balances (72 cards) just by hitting the refresh button.

Every now and then, Sam's Club has a $100 Disney Gift card sold for less and for every $100 Disney GC you bought, you got a free $10 Disneystore.com card (not something you could use in the parks, but people were buying Disney Luggage and stuff online).

Target is always a good deal for people with the red card. (I live on Cape Cod, not a Target in sight!)

BJ's sells $100 Disney gift cards for $96.

It all adds up! It's work to do this, don't get me wrong! However, it can add up to an excursion or a nice spa treatment!

When you say "it's work to do this," do you mean keeping track of and labeling each gift card? Or is there more that takes work?

Closest one to you would probably be in Wareham.

Best deal I have found is the Kroger 4x fuel promo. Works out to be 14% off if you get the full 35 gallons using your discount.

Yes, I just mean buying them and listing them as payment and keeping them in case of refund as opposed to handing over one credit card payment to cover it all.

Thanks for the tip! I also buy my cards at Kroger, love 4x the fuel points! (which is happening now, FYI ). I was planning to try to use GCs for when we are on board. Any tips for doing this? Especially for my DD9, she will have her own gift cards which will be her spending limit...

Thanks for the iphone app info. I have 25 gift cards from my Dream cruise in Feb. 2012. I entered them into the app and found one with $14.72. Yipee! I will be entering the 30 cards I have for my Feb. 2013 cruise into the app before I sail. BTW I use my Target Red Card as well, and I have signed up for their Pharmacy Rewards program. For every 5 Rx's you fill they send you a card for an extra 5% savings for a day for a total of 10% off if combined with your Target Red Card. You can sign up others' Rx's to be credited to your rewards account. In October there was a promo for each Rx to count as 2 credits. Flu shots (which are free with my health insurance) count as Rx's as well. Needless to say, my kids got their flu shots as Target last month. You can sign up on the Target website and use your telephone number when you check out until your card arrives in the mail.

I'm doing the same. Figured I would take some right to guest services and apply them to my account upon boarding. I'll need to ask them when they settle everything up (last night of cruise?) so that I can pay my balance with the remaining cards before they charge my credit card.

I'm doing the same for my kids - giving them each a gift card for x-mas to use on our cruise (along with a pirate shirt). Figured I would let them use their cards in the gift shop instead of charging to the room - think it would be more fun for them that way.

If you only use the Disney gift cards to pay your on board charges (not to pay for the cruise cost itself) do you still keep and catalog the cards?

I'll be doing this for the first time in January. I can't think of a reason why you would need to keep them. Anyone?

I would keep them a year anyway. You never know!

I just bought a $25 Gift Card on Disney store.com using the $6.41 remaining on my Disney Rewards Redemption Card. That redemption card is expiring this month.

That's another thing to keep an eye on-your redemption card or cards. Check their expiration dates and make sure to flip them into Disney Gift cards before they expire! Such a waste if you forget and all it takes is turning them into Disney Gift Cards to preserve their value forever.

Thanks for the Disney Gift Card app! Geez you learn something new every day!
