When to Bank?

I'm new to DVC and am interested to know when most people bank their points if they don't plan on using them in the current UY. Do you bank them right away when you get them or wait until just before the banking window ends (or somewhere in between) just in case your plans change? We live far away so I doubt there will be any spontaneous trips for us.

Unless you are concerned that you might forget, why bank until you absolutely need to? Keep your options open in case your vacation plans suddenly change.

This year, I banked pretty much right away. My use year is October, and I needed the points to book for next October (2013). So I'd say it depends on when you plan on using your banked points as well. If you need them for an 11 month booking window early in your use year, that could play a factor as well. Granted, going forward, I doubt we'll have many (if any) to bank. Small contract of 100 points, but we bought it loaded so had extra this year.

DW and I bank as soon as we know that points will not be needed that UY or will be needed in a later UY.
I banked points from June '12 UY to June '13 UY back in June to plan on using them for a cruise during my June '13 UY.

I would wait until closer to your banking deadline. Nothing worse than having the Disney itch hit for a quick trip after you banked. Now you need to borrow to make the trip.

Totally agree with waiting. You never know when an airline deal will make a last minute trip worth it!!

I also have to agree with waiting. Although more often times I've borrowed points so don't listen to a word I say. Banking is a final transaction. And by final 1) you can't undo it-it stays in the next UY & 2) it's after I finally completed all the visits to my happy place.

We wait until the end of our banking window. I have pop-up calendar reminders set about 2 weeks before my deadline on all my electronic devices. I wouldn't want to bank too soon and lose out on an airfare special LAX/HNL or SAN/HNL!

I typically need to bank a few months in because I use them for the summer trip the following year.

But, if there are any left over--hasn't happened to often--I wait and bank closer to my banking deadline.

I agree with others...I wouldn't bank the points until I either needed them to book a reservation or the banking window is almost up..just in case since banking is a final transaction.

Thought I was being super-efficient banking points early until a bonus trip popped up and wound up borrowing points.
