Not on the dining plan, 10 year old question

We are NOT on the dining plan and I wondered how menu/prices would work for my DS10.

I understand at special meals (character, fantasmic, etc) he will need an adult reservation. However, at table/counter service places, does he need to order off the adult menu even if we are not on the dining plan? He prefers the food on the children's menu. And, if they allow him to order from the children's menu, will they charge him as an adult (again, this is for non-character meals)

When you are paying out of pocket you are welcome to order whatever you'd like, for whoever you'd like

Like you said, he'll be adult prices at buffets.

As long as its not a buffet/family style place, he can order off the kids menu and pay kids prices most of the time. I think there may be a few places that are the exertion from what I've read here. Maybe via Napoli and hacienda???

Yup, I just got back with DS10 and we paid out of pocket. He sometimes ordered off the kids menu, but found those meals to be unsatisfying, so later in the trip he ordered off the adult menu. I made sure he didn't snack too much beforehand so he was hungry and enjoyed the meal much more. We did pay an adult price for him at Ohana's (it's his favourite), and it was a HUGE waste!! He was up out of his chair checking out the activities and barely ate a thing! Oh well. The rest of us enjoyed it!
