There have been a few interesting changes.

Anyway, we are one of the buildings on Water Street in downtown Manhattan that was on the news. There is a parking garage in our building off Water Street and a basement and sub-basement where most of the electrical and mechanical for the building are.

The building is completely dark right now and we won't be back until January, probably. They have temporary generators running one freight elevator for a 40+ story office building that normally holds several thousand workers.

We've been up to our office with flashlights moving the computers and files to the temporary office. We got an e-mail last week from building management saying they finally pumped the water out of the basement and sub-basement - 5 million gallons of the East River. The stench is horrible.

5 maintenance guys from the building were trapped in the basement when the water came in. They were telling us all about it. In 2 minutes, the water went to the ceiling and pushed them through layers of drywall and a steel door. Guys in the lobby lowered an emergency firehose to them and pulled them to safety. They just have some cuts and bruises and were lucky to escape with their lives.
Incredible. Amazing how close we are to being sent right back to the dark ages. I'm glad those maintenance guys made it out ok.

Part of that was because of having to stay for nearly a month in NY and having to fly with him to Salt Lake to finalize. Luckily our work had a program for adoption assistance and then the government offers a 12k (approx.) adoption tax credit that also helped. I wish that I had used the Lawyer with Lauren that I used with Ethan it would have saved us thousands, but I did not know sthat time. With Lauren our expenses were only about 15K. Good LUck!!!

I agree with CJ. Wish we could make it easier for families to be able to do this. So many kids that need good homes. I really respect and admire all of you guys that have gone/are going through the process.

We've looked into adoption a couple of times and it seems like things always come up to stop it from happening. The first time we started down that road, my DW got pregnant with our 3rd child. Then we started looking into it again and MIL passed away, leaving us to care for FIL who can't really take care of himself.

Good Morning All!

You guys were busy posting this weekend. Off to read the pages for a while. Sorry to all those from Indiana. Pats put up 59! and sailed to the victory. Looks like we may have a good chance to meet again is the playoffs though.

Pretty dumb move leaving Gronk in the game only to get hurt on an extra point. I hear he is out for a few weeks.

Apparently over half of our country doesn't pay taxes...

Sorry, I'm pretty sure I just violated a Disboards rule.

Sorry about everything you're having to deal with. That's a scary situation for the maintenance guys, but I'm glad they made it out in good shape. It could have been much worse.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, might try to go through the 10+ pages tonight after dinner when I get a chance. We had a decent weekend away, although it ended with a lot of "drama", you know, the type you wern't involved with, but you end up the one who has to deal with the fallout.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes!

It was a pretty lackluster day to be honest. My Birthday was on a Saturday, and as a salary employee, I essentially don't get paid for working Saturday's and therefore, I might put in a total of maybe 4 or 5 hours on a Saturday all year long, if I absolutely have to. Well, this turned out to be a Saturday that I had to. Happy Birthday to me! Actually, I just had to take some corn samples to be tested, but it is a 2 hour drive each way so it took care of my morning. I got home and took advantage of the nice weather and mowed the hillside and woods one last time so that the grass will be short and in good condition for sledding this winter. It also let me keep a close eye on my woods, which I like to do on opening weekend of shotgun season for deer. I've had to run off trespassers before, so I like to make it difficult for them to sneak in there. Finally got done at about 6 and DW took me to Buy Buy Baby to get a few stroller accessories and supplies for Disney and then we went and ate at Smokey Bones. Busy day, but a nice evening to top it off.

I'm just disappointed that Oregon and K-State let me down on my Birthday though.
