The Budget rental car from the Doubletree at Downtown Disney to the port for our December cruise is $35, plus gas and tolls.
Help? I went to Alamo and they quoted me $135 for a one day rental, pick up at MCO and drop off at PC? Hmmm, am I missing something?

March is spring break, and prices apparently reflect that. Did you use a discount code? I have never used Alamo or National to go to the port, because they didn't have a location near there until recently. I have used Budget and Avis: Budget between WDW and the port, and Avis from MCO and the port. Try Budget with the discount code Y937800 (http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/dis...ion.htm#rental). If $135 is the best you can do, then it obviously makes sense to use DCL transfers.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your above question, but I wanted to chime in that we fall under the Hyatt MCO group. I love the convenience of it and it's worry/stress free! Something is going on in Orlando right before our cruise (Jan5 Fantasy) and prices are a lot higher than usual, so we're gonna use some AMEX points to offset the cost

We have done both. We have done Magical Express to the Port and stayed there. There is a nice Residence Inn there. You can leave your car in there lot for a fee and catch a shuttle to the Disney Terminal. It was a nice clean Residence nice places to eat near by. Either way is nice, but getting up and having a 5 minute ride to the boat was very relaxing. We slept in a bit, caught the shuttle, once on boat went to Parrot Cay for a great lunch. Hope this helps a little.

We forgot our GPS System and used our iPhones when we did this! If you have a smartphone with maps, it's pretty easy.

Corporate discount

$70 for 1-way rental is about the best rate available. Most of the cost is the 1-way drop-off fee.

Most corporate discount plans waive the 1-way drop-off fee. When I added in my magic corporate discount number, the price for 1-way, 2 hour rental dropped down to $35.00.

I don't know if the Budget discount code I posted above is a corporate code, but I have never been charged a one-way drop-off fee with Budget or Avis.

With those prices, I also booked my return. So after we get off the ship, we will take the free shuttle - Weee 'free' I say over to the Budget location and rented another SUV for the second leg of my trip. 4 more days with the return back to Orlando Airport MCO for $138.01

I promised DH that he would not have to schlep luggage this trip. (I will tip well for that service).
This is the main reason we opted to stay at POP before our first DCL cruise. The fact that Disney collects your bags for you at the airport and then DCL picks up your bags from your room is a real plus. The only downside is that you won't likely arrive to the port until about 2 pm on embarkation day. Still, we're doing this again in January for the added convenience; plus, there's nothing like a Disney hotel and its theming to get you in the spirit.

TIA.

I've always rented through BUDGET. I've never paid more than $39.00 for a one day one way car rental. I signed up for a free fast break card, wonder if that would help with the cost?

You're welcome, and I'm glad that code from the DIS saved you money! I rent whatever is cheapest (usually an economy car) - unless I am traveling with my family of 5 and need a larger vehicle.
