Personally, next time we go, we're staying at the Hyatt MCO and using DCL transfers.

We just did this for our 11/3 cruise. Sooo convenient! We have stayed at the Hyatt in the past but never took the DCL bus RT.
Unless you have enough time to visit parks, it's not worth driving west to WDW just to drive that much further east the next day to the port. jmho

3. Enjoy our 4 night cruise on Disney Dream

4. Car Rental at Alamo (signed up member) from March 14th to the 17th $188.97 and drive from Port Canaveral to Universal Studios and enjoy 4 nights at Hard Rock Hotel

5. Return Rental car to MCO on Sunday March 17th to return to reality

Hmmmm what say you all?
That sounds like a good plan. Another option would be do 1. What you said. 2. We rented a car from Budget on our last day at Disney. Car was picked up at the Radisson(?) in DTD. Drove to port there. DH dropped DD and I at port and returned the car at PC. 3. Enjoyed our Dream cruise! 4. Pick up a car at PC when you return and drive to Universal. 5. Return car to MCO . Just A thought!

We always rent a car from MCO airport stay at a local resort usually Marriot then drive to port drop off kids and luggage and me while husband takes car rental to local agency we use Avis and then he rides their shuttle (free) back to port. When we return from cruise he takes the shuttle to Avis rents the car and picks us up. It's cheaper when you are a family of six, we then return it at the Avis in downtown Disney and ride the bus back to our resort BCV. That way it's easy to stop and purchase last minute items too.

Arrive at MCO on D day minus 1
Stay night at Hyatt MCO
Take DCL transfer morning of D day
Cruise
Hold onto your bags during debarkation
Take DCL transfer back to MCO with the rest of us
Rent car at MCO as you usually do
Proceed to Universal Studios

Other options:
Do one way DCL transfer to port, at end of cruise rent car in Coco Beach, returning to MCO after Universal
Also could substitute private towncar transportation instead of DCL if you prefer

I don't think this sounds all that complicated, you just need to have it all pre-arranged.
Sounds convenient but have you ever stayed at airport hotel? Is it nice? Does it have a pool? Is it clean? Does it compare to Disney Deluxe hotels?

Great Idea, I like Marriott hotels (clean); Car rental can work like that? Rent at airport, drop off at PC next day? They will free shuttle him to PC when he drops off car?

I love these boards. You all are so great

This one sounds like a great plan My DS would be upset with me if we did not take the bus. He loves to watch the videos before we get there.

I hear you on that too We all like to sit back and relax and watch a little TV and let the driver do all the work.

DH doesn't want to get all stressed out on first day in town. Just let the driver take us down to port and hook up a car rental after the cruise.

Do you know if MCO Hilton Hotel is clean? or has a pool for DH and DD to relax a bit prior to heading to PC?

p.s. you can't sleep either mornin

Morning to you also. I normally get up at 730am to get my son ready for school. But I woke up at 6am and could not get back to sleep so here I am I have never stay at the Hilton but I normally look the hotel up at Tripadvisor it has user reviews and most times it has traveler photos. So the person writing the review and post pictures they took as well.

I like your plan. It's as simple as it can be, and I don't think it will slow you down at all. Great job.

Sorry, somehow I missed the fact you wanted to stay at WDW before cruise. Yes, Hyatt MCO is a nice, clean hotel. Yes they have a rooftop pool. No, it's not like a Disney resort, more like a modern american style hotel. It's main attraction is it's location right inside the MCO terminal, so for some of us who fly in the night before cruise, we don't have to worry about when we fly in. When we get there, we get there and we get something to eat, sleep, get up and take an early transfer to PC.

Have a great time!

Hotel inside MCO terminal is Hyatt, not Hilton.

My friend and I took the DCL bus from MCO to the port once when we couldn't find a one-way rental car for less than $70. However, I wouldn't pay $105 for 3 people when I could do a one-way rental for much less. The Budget rental car from the Doubletree at Downtown Disney to the port for our December cruise is $35, plus gas and tolls.

I see your point, but I also need to consider my 'grumpy' DH not quite knowing where to go, having to pay tolls etc. Although... we do have a GPS system we could bring. This way, we can explore, relax & pick out our alcoholic beverage of choice, drop the rental car off the next morning and have them shuttle us to the port (free) AND pick out the hotel of choice down by Cocoa Beach and drop off car at Port in the a.m. Hmmmmm, I'm liking all the ideas
