That's a good point. Sometimes we get so attached to memories and traditions (not that there is anything wrong with either) we forget that at one point, those were new experiences too. If we hold on too tight to to things, we only set ourselves up for disappointment, nothing ever stays EXACTLY the same. We have to make new memories and form new traditions and keep the magic moving. I don't believe anyone is trying to belittle anyone else loss or sense of loss with whatever changes happen to MSB. I just think that most if not all will be happily surprised. At the rate some people are going, some of ya'll are bound to pass out, lol. It will be ok!

I'll never understand this "stoppage of time" argument. You say that you will miss your precious memories. But of what? The MSB as it exists in 2012? But the MSB of 2012 is very different from the MSB of 1995, which was very different from the MSB of 1972. So who gets to control when we stop change in its tracks? If you really want to be nostalgic and pine for the MSB of the good ol' days, then you should be longing for the original version that had a huge Sara Lee sign outside and sold Sara Lee products. But if that is NOT the MSB that you knew and loved, then that is because it.......wait for it......CHANGED!!! It became what you loved through change. And it will become what someone else loves through change. Why should your preferences halt a change that might give joy to so many others?

And remember. Changes like this are fully revocable and reversable. If the MSB becomes a mere shadow of its former self and indeed goes over like a lead balloon, then more change will come until it evolves into something beloved once again. But in the end, we should all look to the Tiki Room as a lesson. Hard corp Disney fanatics got their wish and it returned to the original show....and now plays to empty theaters. The old ways are not necessarily the best ways. Nostalgia is a fuzzy filter through which to view life.

By reading your post, it seems you are assuming they are going to tear down MSB and replace it with an SB similar to those you see everyday.

They are not. Main Street will still look the same.
That is exactly what I am thinking because they are saying the bakery will be "replaced" by a Starbucks. I drink Starbucks. I have the app on my phone for Starbucks. I just don't want a Starbucks on main street. If they were to serve it in the bakery, I would feel a little differently. But the whole feel of a Starbucks (outside and inside) ruins it. I am concerned about the nostalgia. I personally don't eat much pastry. I don't think i've ever had a pastry from MSB. It makes me think of reality because it's like reality in a way... Small town USA with a mom and pop bakery and then the big brand store moves in. I wouldn't mind being able to have a latte while at Disney, just not on main street. I am concerned about the overall aesthetics of having it there. They are also putting a Starbucks at the Fountain View in future world. But if they were putting it in World Showcase (lets say in Italy) would that feel right? All I'm saying is put it somewhere else.

No, they are not saying msb will be "replaced" by starbucks. That is false.

And you must be joking to call msb a mom and pop bakery. That is absurd. Lol.

I'm in tears. Such a simple point and yet from the past you-people-have-got-to-be-kidding-me 50 pages, I know so many will still argue, and still moan groan and complain and completely miss the point.

The very last sentence is a wonderful sentiment and very true

Can you tell me where this info is? Everything I am reading is saying that it's being "replaced". Another article read that the bakery is closing and reopening as a Starbucks.

At Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street Bakery will close for refurbishment in January 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in early summer.

At Magic Kingdom Park, for example, cast members will wear a costume consistent with the early 20th century look and feel of Main Street, U.S.A.

The Starbucks locations at Magic Kingdom Park and Epcot will both offer the full complement of Starbucks® signature beverages, artisan breakfast sandwiches and a wide selection of baked goods, including muffins, scones and specialty treats.
And then this comment from the blog writer:

Quote:
Hi Amy, yes there will be a selection of Disney favorites that you’ve enjoyed at the bakery over the years.
This is more than just adding Starbucks coffee. The bakery is getting refurbed. It will remain in theme, but it won't be the same bakery.

As long as some of the old items remain (specifically the cinnamon bun), I'll be happy.

Right. Not replaced, refurbed. When they totally rebuilt the facade recently, that was not a replacement either but it is not the same bakery. The msb changes often.

Can you link those stories? I haven't seen any that said "replaced".

We should find out from the DL peeps how the transition to the Starbucks at the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Café worked out. I've never been to DisneyLand, so I couldn't compare the old location to the new location.

The bakery is going to be closed in January. That's what the blog post in the link said. Didn't give specific dates, though.

Words matter, people. "Reopened" (which is the word actually used in the press release) does not equal "Replaced".

Example.
  • California Grill will close for renovations soon and reopen as the CG. Even if the menu changes somewhat, it is still reopening as the CG.
  • Top of The World closed and was replaced by the California Grill.

If the MSB comes back as a green colored Starbucks a la any-city-in-America, then it will have replaced the MSB. If the MSB comes back as a turn-of-the-century shoppe with Starbucks coffee and a combination of Starbucks and Disney baked goods, then the MSB will have reopened as the same place with a different menu. Get it??

Starbucks/Disney has the power to take away your memory? How is it that your memories will be gone because of a different sponsor?
