Owning 2 DVC resorts

Being a new owner (OKW 170 Aug UY) I am a little confused at how you would make resv if say I purchased BLT 170 Mar UY . I can make home resort resv 11 months out I know but how do you incorporate the points from the "other" resort. I see some lucky people who have 3-4-5 resorts and I'm very jealous! Can someone give me a good example/graph that I can understand. That way I can better explain to my DW when I want to actually incorporate this idea !Thanks

You can't use the resort A's points at Resort B until 7 months out. At 11 months out, you could make two reservations, one for each place, and then try to switch 1/2 of it at 7 months.

When you have points for different resorts in two different use years, it is like you are two separate and distinct owners. You will have two different member numbers with two different banking dates and two separate annual statements for dues to pay.

Points retain their resort identity at all times and thus you cannot mix points from the two resorts at 11 months out to reserve at only one resort. In other words, only Boardwalk points can be used for Boardwalk 11 months out, only BLT points at BLT 11 months out, etc.

You can use them together at 7 months out to reserve at one resort, but with different use years you can do so only by transferring points from one use year to the other. The alternative, and what many do if you want to reserve at one resort using points from both use years, is use points from one use year to reserve some nights of a planned trip and use points from the other use year to reserve the rest of the nights and then link the reservations.

There are many who own at two resorts who use them to alternate trips at the two resorts annually while using the 11 month booking window. One year they will use current points in one use year plus borrowed points from the next use year to stay at one resort. Meanwhile, they bak the points in the other use year. Next year they use those banked points and regular points to stay at the other resort. They continue that pattern and thus go to each resort once ever two years.

I own 400 points at two different resorts with different use years. I usually utilize one resort's points for home resort advantage and bank and borrow when necessary. My OKW use year is Dec and my BWV use year is August. I book fall/winter trips with BWV points and spring/summer trips with OKW points. I have had no problems managing trips and points for over a decade.

When we added on at a different resort, we made sure they are the same use year. The points are only good at 11 months that the resort they are from, but at 7 months it doesn't really matter where they are from. We only have one membership number (just had to make sure our names were the same on the add on)

OK so if I wanted to resv home resort for 8 nites totaling 200 pts and I only have 170 pts they will borrow from next year to reserve that correct?
Then at 7 months I wanted to change those other 30 pts from borrowing to using points from the other resort I own it would be a seperate resv that would have to be linked so I wouldn't have to change rooms.
The 30 borrowed points would then stay in the use year I borrowed them into wouldn't they? Hmm

you can only use pts from another resort's contract if rooms are still available (not counting the room you booked) - you can't reallocate to defeat the home resort window...

Thanks I'm not trying to get around any rules. Well yes I guess I'm trying to wrap my mind around them !! I do like all the previous thoughts of having 2 resorts and booking every other year. Sounds like a good (and easy) plan.

It is easy, and if you find you still want more at one resort than you have with banking and borrowing, you can still try at the 7 month window to add on to your location.

Next year we plan to book a Christmas trip in a GV. We only have enough points for that at OKW, but it's our desire to book at AKV where we have a very small contract. Our plan is to book one night in an AKV GV and a week in an OKW GV at the 11 month booking window. Then when the 7 month window opens up, we'll try to add to our AKV booking one day at a time. Of course, we might have to then switch to a 2 bedroom if we decide we want to remain at AKV and skip the GV at OKW, but we will have options that we can choose from on that first day of the 7 month window. AND...If it all falls through, we still have one night at AKV GV and a week at OKW GV.

Many own more than 1 UY, we own 2 at 5 resorts. For simplicity sake, try to have only 1 UY unless you have a good reason for to. 2 UY's means 2 separate memberships and twice the work to keep things straight.
