There are two beaches close by but you will need a taxi (very short ride) to get there.

1. Balneario de Carolina - The municipal beach of the town of Carolina. Big and a pretty view of San Juan. 10 minutes by taxi.

2. There is a small patch of beach next to the Condado Lagoon that is very nice. 5 minutes by Taxi. It is right in the middle of everything in San Juan.

What part of Puerto Rico are you from? My husband is from Toa Baja and I was raised in Arecibo
I live in Vega Alta. About 10 minutes from Toa Baja and 40 minutes from Arecibo.

There is a great little tapas bar at the Hotel El Convento. It is on Cristo St in the Old Town. We ate there a couple of times this past trip. A little expensive, but most good restaurants in Puerto Rico are a bit pricey. It has great alfresco dining in a cool courtyard with a great covered bar. The lamb is awesome! The restaurant is called EL PICOTEO. Here's a link: http://www.elconvento.com/dining/dining-overview.aspx

Yea, things have not changed much since we moved. It was nice to go back for a couple of hours. The heat was insane, just as I remember it.

Glad to help.

Very sweet and a favorite in the Island. Close to the port there is a market where they sell local sweets, finger foods and fruit, they had quenepas as well

Quenepas are not in season right now. When they are, many people sell them on the street.
