OBC leftover??
I have a question....we are going on the Dream in 3 weeks and we have some family members that want to give us on board credit and are calling DCL to set that up....here is a good question though, if someone gifts this to us and we don't use all of it up, what happens to the leftover credit? I have read that they refund the original credit card but what if it was gifted to us? Between the credit we are getting from family and DU, I really don't think we will be spending that much....what happens???

Any money added to your ship board account by credit card (or gift card) and not used should be refunded back to the same card. Maybe have them get a Disney Gift Card and then have that applied towards the shipboard account. They can give you the Gift Card and that way you have the card for any unused balance.
Any OBC from DCL or a TA that is unused would be forfeited.

That's never been a problem for us. By the time you factor in tips, souvenirs, shore excursions, pictures, it adds up fast.

I never knew it was possible to NOT use all of your OBC!!
![]() But seriously, any unused OBC from friends or family will be refunded to the card used. Any OBC from Disney will not be refunded. On our last cruise, we as a family of four received $700 OBC, we went over... You'd be surprised at how all those extra purchases add up...

Any leftover OBC will be refunded to the card it came from (whether a credit card, Disney gift card, or whatever). So if you were given a credit by someone else--TA, family friend, etc--it will return to them as a credit to their card. Alternatively they can purchase a Disney gift card and give that to you; the leftover would refund to the gift card which you could use in a Disney Store or other Disney product.
The order that OBC will "spend" on your care is first "non-refundable OBC" which is essentially OBC from Disney, then "refundable OBC" which is what comes from anyone placing cash on your account. |

Actually, we did a super-cheap cruise (only spent 6.95 in the stores plus tips) earlier this month and I did have leftover credit. I haven't received any communication from DCL about which cards were refunded to. Do they usually tell you or do I need to check each card's balance? I did the Target thing, so there are 6 or 8 possible cards.

We usually (not happening this time) put cash on our tab and try to stay ahead of it - on the last day we have gone to the Guest Services and gotten money back - but I'm guessing you have to go there

Most cards have either an 800 number or an e-mail site on the back that you can access to check the balance.

I was thinking the same thing!!
But the idea of Disney Gift Cards is a good one... they never expire. You can check with Guest Services every other day on your account balance if you've been spending and apply a gift card as needed. Since you'll be on the Dream (1st time?)... you'll want a few photos (which aren't cheap!) and some cruise line clothing and trinkets for sure.

I couldn't believe our bill either, and we didn't buy any drinks. It was all from tips, an excursion, and photos. If you're doing Disney Excursions, I highly doubt you'll have anything left over.

We've done cruises where we spent nothing beyond the OBC we had from our onboard rebooking and our TA--in fact, we added to the tips to spend the little we had left after doing everything we'd planned. We've also done cruises where we spent a lot of money. It is just a matter of the choices you make.

About half the time I cruise, I have money left over from my own board account. We usually put cash on our account when we board and just go to guest services the last day and they give me the cash back. We don't drink (alcohol) and don't do alot of on board shopping, so it's really easy for us not to have a big bill/balance at the end of the cruise.
