Sorry about your experiences.

Towel animals - they are not guaranteed, so you cannot ask for them, nor complain about not getting them.

Toothpaste - really? If my kids make a mess, I clean the mess. You should have cleaned up that mess yourself, but since you missed it, then perhaps the housekeepers missed it as well?

Paint drips - that is not anything that housekeeping can handle.

Hair - that should be cleaned up, and I would speak to them about that.

Front desk - you aren't actually calling the front desk of your hotel. It is a central command center set up somewhere else on property, so it is always best to present yourself at the front desk. I have been transferred to a resort manager/supervisor from the front desk line, but that is because I was returning their call from earlier in the day.

During our last trip our daughter got sick in the middle of the night. Puked all over the blanket and pillow. I had cleaned up what I could. Well that morning just before leaving for the day, we let the housekeeper know what had happened. We came back that night, wanting to put the kids right to bed because we were all tired....we get to our room and there's a bag of clean towels hanging from the knob and a "sorry, we missed you" note. We walk in our room and nothing was done! The pukey blankets were still on the floor and neither bed was made, nothing! So this housekeeper just didn't want to clean up puke. Which I don't blame her, but it's her job to clean the rooms. So we had to call up front, and had another housekeeper not even involved in the situation clean our room, at 9 at night. How awkward! Bottom line, not EVERY housekeeper is going to be there and go out of their way for you. Sad but true.

Wow, if my kids, or I, leave a blob of toothpaste in a hotel sink and we miss it. I'd expect a hotel housekeeper to clean it up. How can they miss it when their job is to clean the hotel room?

I'm having a hard time thinking of a response because some of your complaints are so picky that I can't believe you're serious. The hair is one thing, but paint drips and tooth paste blobs left in the sink? These things warrant calls to the front desk?

We stayed at POR before the renovations a few years back, and had a TERRIBLE stay. The room was horribly dirty from the moment we checked in (dust EVERYWHERE and wrappers and garbage like it had never even been cleaned) and housekeeping didn't even bother to ever clean anything even though we asked numerous times. We did talk to the front desk and housekeeping about it, but not much was ever resolved. When we got back home, I wrote a letter to WDW telling them that this was NOT the image they should be portraying to guests and that we wouldn't ever want to stay at that resort again unless big changes were made.
A month or so later, I received a phone call saying my email had reached headquarters and that they wanted to make things right for us. The gave us another complementary stay to be used within 2 years at either POR (after the renovations) or 2 other options. We did decide to go back to POR a little over a year later, and things were absolutely perfect! The refurb really did wonders for that resort.
So, long story short, just make your important issues known to them. WDW truly does care about its guests and wants you to have the best experience possible!

*I do want to say though, some issues you just have to deal with. Towel animals don't really seem like they should be at the top of housekeeping's list of things to do.

Just wanted to say that, with the exception of the towel animals, I think all your complaints are valid. If I happen to miss some toothpaste, or some crumbs somewhere in the room, I DO expect housekeeping to clean it. I try picking up clothes and tidying the bathroom/ kitchen counters before we go out for the day, but sometimes I miss things or am in a rush, especially at Disney. I'm on vacation after all, and they are working! We had mold in the shower when we checked in at BWV in 2010. Called/asked at front desk for 3 days to have it cleaned but housekeeping never did. Wrote email when we got home, got a phone call 2 days later and we were offered a free 3 night stay at any deluxe villa to use within 2 yrs. I do think they care; some staff just more than others. I would definitely make my complaints known (except the towel animals).

Gasp - no towel animals I get wanting your room cleaned properly but maybe just let the no towel animals go.

Your complaints are valid imo, they do usually do basic cleaning like wipe the sink and counters. I guess we've been lucky, we always get at least one towel animal, nothing elaborate but still a nice touch. Although not required or expected, it's always a nice surprise (and we add something extra to their tip).

I also think your complaints are valid. When I arrive in a hotel room I don't want 'souvenirs' from previous guests. I don't think it's too much to ask for their hair, bottle caps, coffee spills and melted ice to be removed before you arrive.
Unlike others, I also don't think it's asking too much for a few toothpaste smears to be wiped away. I don't know what it's like in the U.S., but here in NZ it's generally expected that sinks will get a full wipe down each day when the room is cleaned. My family would never intentionally make a mess around the sink and are generally very tidy travelers. However when we are paying for the luxury of not having to clean for a week or two, if there is a bit of toothpaste or soap scum lying around the sink I would hope it would get cleaned away.

yes, OP, i'd be bothered by the state of the room as well (we rarely get towel animals, so i don't even think about that). not sure where you're staying, but, on our last trip (in september, one night, for DD15's birthday), we stayed at POP, and, when we got to our room (we checked in about 7:00am), it was obvious it had either not been cleaned, or was just given a swipe and a promise. there were no clean towels, dried urine on the toilet seat, the floor obviously hadn't been vacuumed, and there was trash on the table from the previous guests. unfortunately, i didn't notice any of this until we got back to our room that night, so we had to call housekeeping for towels (and the person on the phone sounded REALLY put out that we expected to be brought towels so we could shower), and i had to clean the toilet seat and throw away the trash myself.

now, in the grand scheme of things, only the dirty toilet seat is a really big deal; however, i pay more to stay on disney property-if i wanted to stay at an obviously dirty hotel, i could pay much less.

i will say, we've stayed at POP 7-8 times, and this was the first time our room had ever been less than spotless.

I do not think that a clean room is an unreasonable expectation. Towel animals are an extra, so they shouldn't be expected. Ice machines are unrelated-an issue to be mentioned at the front desk.

I do not like clutter or things out of place, especially when staying in a hotel room with limited space. I do not keep things laying around on the counter tops or night table etc.. If you walk into the room, you can barely tell that a family is staying in the room. Everything is put away and neat. With that said, it becomes very obvious when the room is not cleaned well. That is my tip for ensuring a good cleaning from houskeeping or mousekeeping.

My suggestion would be to go to the front desk with pics in hand from your cell to show them. Also- no tipping needed in this case. No tip earned IMO. No matter what the response is from the front desk- let it go and enjoy your vacation. Don't let a negative situation distract you from the point of being on vacation.

I agree, but I would add that towel animals are a nice perk, and you can't depend on getting them. Paint drips wouldn't bother me. The leftover extras from the previous guests would bother me.

Missed toothpaste from my own kids? I'd clean it up without a second thought. Not a biggie.

Yes it would bother me.not the towel animals or the paint drips(which it wouldn't fall on housekeeoing to correct that is a maintenance type issue) but the other things yes. However,speaking as a former housekeeping inspector, this was really a lack of inspection then the housekeeper issue especially after the complaint was made an inspector should have gone in and made sure the cleanning issues were taken care of. You pay for a room where housekeeping is a daily service yes your sink should have been cleaned. Water in ice bucket and hair are big no nos. I would agree with taking pictures and since it is a call center go directly to afront desk and speak with a manager.

This is disheartening to me when we return to our room, weary and tired. I want to see things clean, not want to clean them myself!!!!

Also, my kids have been super disappointed because there have been no towel animals!!! not one! not even the towel Mickey head that is usually on the bed when we check in. I know these aren't a neccessity, but they always added to the magic. We got spoiled last year with a different one each day.

I want to say, I have been tipping our house keeper 4-6 dollars each day, but I am seriously considering putting anend to that.

Should I bother to go to the front desk to complain?

We check out Saturday.

I hope things got better for you! I understand being disappointed about the towel animals, but I also understand expecting a clean room when you check in! Housekeeping is actually a cleaning service so your room should be clean when you arrive. We are pretty tidy guests, but when we're in a hurry to get out the door and trying to convince our tween son to brush his teeth the last thing I'm worried about is toothpaste in the sink! If there was some I'd expect housekeeping to clean it because it is there job. I'm not paying thousands of dollars and leaving them tips to take a nap in my room. The tips are for a job well done and if the room isn't being cleaned they're not doing their job. (Paint & towel animals not included, although towel animals are awesome,)
